We are coming down again for our 3rd time recently and have never explored the West side of the Island. I was wondering would it be safe(considering current and gator, etc) to take some kayaks to the backside of the island, North of the bridge, by the Grand Belizean subdivision and Kayak out to that little island between there and Blackadore?

We stay a few miles North of the bridge with some Expats. I

If this is a horrible idea please let me know.

Thoughts?

It is a great idea. Each year we have a kayak race around the island. There may be some guided tours available for kayaking in the lagoons. We swim in those areas on a regular basis (clear waters not the murky waters.)

Have fun.

You might want to check with Lisa's Kayak rental. She is just north of the Palapa Bar.

Yes, we rent kayaks to go out on the lagoon side. It's beautiful, quiet, tons to see (especially in the late afternoon when the birds start to roost), and a completely enjoyable experience.

Thanks for the answers sounds like a must do for us. We actually have access to kayaks where we are staying and have a Polaris to transport them. Where should we put them in the water at?

As soon as you get to the end of the east west road, you can put in near the pier for grand belizean estates!

The lagoons in the interior of the island are very interesting. You can put in on a little dock behind Journeys End (YWAM). easy access from the road.
They connect there and have some unique islands to explore.

Thanks for the info we Kayak'd out from "not so secret" beach to the island. We found a sand bar that must have been 100+ acrea of 3 foot deep perfect sand and water. THANKS again!
