FISHING REPORT

July 12th - July 18th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly fair weather all week for partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, a few squalls here and there.

Winds: 0-20 mph from the east all week, with the calmer weather n the beginning of the week.

Air Temperature: Highs are in the mid to upper 80's to low 90's lows in the mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-82 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:23 am Sunset: 6:30 pm

Moonphase: The last quarter moon was on July 8th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bob & Jeanna, Brad & Brenna, Tonya & Bruce, Ferdy & Michaela ( From Germany), Paul & Kathy, Jody and Keith, Brent & Jen, Bill & Megan, Randall & Kathy, Nick & John, Ron & Jim, Stanley, Cole, Carl, Earl and many many more enjoyed the bonefishing here on the flats near El Pescador. In fact some folks were trying to fool the educated fish tailing in front of the lodge as the tide was coming in. Biggest of the week was around 5 pounds!

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit magic continues The best permit stories of the week are from our returning guests and great friends Bob and Jeanna. They both got multiple permit this week and it was Jeanna's first ever! I can't tell you how happy I am for both of them (especially Jeanna since it is her first) Brad's was part of his slam. I know more permit were caught and released so let me know if I left your name out!

TARPON (Sabalo): Omar was casting at tarpon every day he went out. Fly-fishing for only 2 years it was a pleasure to have his happy Italian laughter around this week, Paul got a beauty. I don't mean Kathy (although she is a beauty) I mean Paul caught a tarpon! One of Brad's many hookups ended up fulfilling the tarpon slot in his grand slam, Brenna had her first ever cast at a tarpon and the fish obliged her casting prowess with a nice bite! The story ends there though, as it just didn't stick, She says she set the hook too late, I say it is random sometimes early is good, sometimes late is better, it is pretty random when it sticks!! Ferdy was a tarpon Magnet from Germany! Omar was our tarpon whisperer from Italy!

OTHER SPECIES: Ladyfish, Jacks were very cooperative, several species of snappers, a few snook, some Spanish Mackerel and many other species especially if you count the reef trips that went out... Tripletail, groupers, barracudas all came to the boat.

Grand Slam: Hip Hip Hooray for Brad as he picked up a grand slam on his last day of fishing. Brenna (Brad's sweetheart enthusiastically agreed to an extra day of fishing and it paid off with a nice tarpon, a decent permit and bonefish!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Pretty much if it was in front of a bonefish it worked, but our guides seem to like the simple lead eye CI special

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special, Bauer Crab, Foxy clouser.

FOR TARPON - White bunny, Black Death, White toads!

This Week's Summary:

Some great fishing this week with a real international crowd from the US, Canada, Italy, Germany. Weather was pretty good and the fishing was great.

FISHING REPORT

July 19th - July 25th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly fair weather all week with a few squalls here and there.

Winds: Winds were moderate most of the week with morning winds 10-15 and afternoon breezes of 5-10 mph, mostly out of the east. (the good direction)

Air Temperature: Highs are in the mid to upper 80's to low 90's lows in the mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-82 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.6 - 31.22

Sunrise: 5:28 am Sunset: 6:28 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon was on July 24th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Brian, John, Susan, Joe, David, Sharon, David, Linda, Nicole, Clinton, Connie, Mark, Hunter, Brent, Jeanna, and many more were able to land their share of the silver ghost. A large group of women from the International Women's Fishing Association gathered at El Pescador for the IWFA bonefish tournament. Here is a teaser - 63 bonefish on a single boat in an 8-hour day!! The tournament finishes up next week so I will post the results then.

PERMIT (Palometta): Susan landed a couple permit on her trip, Sharon bested her beau David with a lovely permit to the boat! Returning guest Joe got a beautiful permit this week while his wife Melissa and baby Nathan played at the beach and pool. (Nathan was quickly adopted by our waitstaff!) John & Nick had a permit next to the boat and almost touched the leader before it popped off. Susan and Jeff had each had some permit during their adventure.

TARPON (Sabalo): Brian and Jon got tarpon to eat out on Savanah late in the week but nothing to the boat. Robert and Joe had the most tarpon hooked up this week with 9 but alas, Zero came to the boat! Susan and Jeff got some great tarpon action this week. Ben and Rex got in to some good tarpon fishing this week landing a few between them with several more hooked up. David got a great looking tarpon after throwing at fish that wouldn't say yes - his advice: "just keep throwing it at them."

OTHER SPECIES: Jack, Ladyfish, Snappers, barracudas, lots of shad, a look down, some triggers lots of extras!

Grand Slam: Susan and Jeff had a boat slam! Between the 2 of them they landed a bonefish, permit and tarpon in a single day (it just wasn't a single angler so it is not quite as precious as the grand slam.)

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - What do you have in your box? It will probably work! Make sure the are some lead eye versions of your favorite flies as they will kick up a little silt on that first strip and the bonefish love that!

FOR PERMIT - Peterson shrimp, Mantis ghost shrimp, Merkin crab, Christmas Island Special

FOR TARPON - Black bunny, black deceiver, chartreuse toad

This Week's Summary:

Some nice weather and great folks from all over the world. The great fishing is certainly a bonus!

FISHING REPORT

July 26th - August 1st, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly fair weather all week for partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, a few squalls here and there.

Winds: Winds were moderate most of the week with morning winds 10-15 and afternoon breezes of 5-10 mph, mostly out of the east.

Air Temperature: Highs are in the mid to upper 80's to low 90's lows in the mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-83 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.5 - 30.00

Sunrise: 5:29 am Sunset: 6:26 pm

Moonphase: The full moon was on July 31st.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Our IWFA (International women's Fishing Association) group were here and caught 450 bonefish over 3 days and 8 boats out on the water each of the 3 days! The high fish day was 63 bonefish in one boat in one 8 hour day! Congratulations to Connie for first place, with Pam, Denise and Susan in second through fourth. Donna, Molly, Abby (the Orvis group leader), Darla, Joan, Ellen, Janice, and Susan #2 really demonstrated their skills. I would encourage all women anglers to check out their site at http://www.iwfa.org/ . The rest of the El Pescador guest list also did well with the bonefish. The Elder family of 12 that tore up some bonefish flats, Nic, Patrick, David, Joe, Ben, Dan, Nic1, Nic2 all did well with the bones. Honeymooners, Lance & Sara, and Andrew and Kate all succeeded in their bonefish quest. Our Orvis group did great with Dan leading the way for Chris, Scott, Cameron, Emily and little Jack. Jack, at just one-year-old he demonstrated his charm with the staff and was voted most likely to Slam by age ten!

PERMIT (Palometta): The Elder family also got a few permit, with Patrick, Joe and Ben leading the way for a great permit week. Dan from Orvis led a great group this week and both he and his friend Will figured out how to make a few permit eat. Max ended up with a permit that was part of his grand slam day. Kassie and Joe fished with us just one day and BOTH of them ended with permit, and our friend Hackney arrive late in the week as a warm up for next week's Tres Pescados tournament and started off strong with a permit that was the building black for his first slam,

TARPON (Sabalo): Cameron started off the week by jumping 3 in one day and wondering what he did wrong ( a constant question from new tarponites), and he followed it up with a nice one to the boat a couple days later feeling vindicated. Dan landed a beauty, Dave got one after a great fight, Max, Kassie, Joe, Joe 2, Hackney all landed tarpon. Adam, a regular guest and great friend to both us and the fishery got 2 tarpon his first day out. Adam will be leading our tarpon tagging expedition next week and we applaud him for his efforts to help our fishery. Heath ended up the week with 4 to the boat on his last day of fishing for the high tarpon number of the week.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, Cudas, Cameron was our snapper supplier for dinner, ladyfish, jacks and much more!

Grand Slam: Oh Baby there was some action going on this week. First and foremost was a DOUBLE grand slam by Kassie and Joe, 2 anglers, one boat, 2 slams. My hats off to them and their guide. I am not done Max achieved the coveted prize, Joe did it and Hackney got into the groove right away on his first day! FIVE grand slams in a week! You should have been here last week!!!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Crazy Charlie tan, Gotcha, CI Special, tiny micro crabs,

FOR PERMIT - Gummy minnow, SimRam, Ci special, Raghead Crab ( tan), Avalon

FOR TARPON - White Toad, Chartreuse bunny, Black death bunny, blue and white deceiver, purple/black bunny, Tan bunny

This Week's Summary:

Another epic permit week with the tarpon coming on strong around the full moon! Again, debunking some of the myth about tarpon eating all night on a full moon.

FISHING REPORT

August 16th - August 22nd, 2015

Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy skies through the week with a couple of clear days. 2 -3 brief, isolated thunderstorms had no impact on our guests.

Winds: Winds were moderate to start the week 10-15 from the east building to 10-20 mph for 5 days and back down to 10 mph on Saturday. As the winds built there was some shifting from east to South east going on that really affected the tides dramatically!

Air Temperature: Highs were in low 90's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 81-83 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.78- 29.93

Sunrise: 5:30 am Sunset: 6:25 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon was on August 22nd.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Sandy was the lone non-tarpon angler staying at the lodge this week and this is her second time at El Pescador. Not only did her casting improve greatly but her bonefish total skyrocketed. Bravo Miss Sandy! Jeff and Lisa visited us for a day and went out on a bonefish adventure. Sara gets kudos for the most consistent student out on the casting platform. Practice is the key. The more hours you have on the water or even visualizing the cast the better you get. The right instruction helps for sure!

PERMIT (Palometta): Glen was the only tarpon guy who wanted to see what this permit fishing was about, and although he didn't land one, he had enough interactions to get hooked!

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon was the focus of the week as Adam Marton's annual Tarpon Tagging Expedition was in full force. Tarpon guru Andy Mill headlined the event which included 16 anglers from all over the US. The event included daily seminars featuring Mr. Mill's expertise along with scientific updates about the movement of previously tagged fish and what the University of Miami is learning about these prehistoric fish. Overall it is a great success with 44 interactions between anglers and tarpon of all sizes, this includes, bites, jumps, and landing of fish from 10 pounds to 130 pounds. To get a tag a fish must be at least 80 pounds as this assures that it is an adult migratory fish. The first tagged fish transmitted data showing it moved over 50 miles south along the Belize coast. The group tagged 3 more big fish to deploy 3 out of the 4 tags that were donated. These satellite tags record lots of information and then transmit each time it reaches the surface. Adam should be applauded for getting this work done and we hope Andy, Nick, Seth, John, Bill,, Mike, Tommy, Dustin, Eric, Frank, David, Jeff, Reese, Sara, Glen and Adam return for round 4 in 2016.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Snook, Cuda, Sharks, Sting Rays, a couple birds, Snapper!

Grand Slam: Not this week!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Gotcha with legs, micro crabs

FOR PERMIT - They bumped an Avalalon and Mantis shrimp.

FOR TARPON - Black death, White toad, white deceiver, green toad, cockroach

This Week's Summary:

The tarpon fishing improved as the week went on! it is fairly certain that during their migration the tarpon do this to spawn and get a larger gene pool going for reproduction. Even though tarpon mature at 14 or 15 years, our younger resident tarpon on Savannah flats were exhibiting odd pre-spawn behavior out on the flats and proved tough to engage with a fly.

FISHING REPORT

August 23rd - August 29th, 2015

Weather Conditions: HOT!! and partly cloudy most of the week with a short shower every other day or so.

Winds: Winds were very calm this week ranging from dead calm to 5, maybe 8 mph by the end of the week.

Air Temperature: Highs were in low 90's with lows in the mid to upper 70's but the lack of our sea breeze made it feel a lot hotter than normal.

Water Temperature: Temp: 81-83 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.85- 29.99

Sunrise: 5:36 am Sunset: 6:10 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon was on August 29th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The bonefishing was good in the morning but the flats got just a little too hot by the early afternoon so 80% of the bonefish were caught before noon. In the afternoon we had to find some deeper water to catch them. Catch them we did with everyone getting into the action. Brenda's first fish on a fly rod was a bonefish! Our South Carolina group consisting of Sandy, Alex, Andrew, Catherine, George and their South Carolina guide Mike all had an easy time with bonefish. This was true for Nick, Jason, honeymooners Dillon and Katie, Mom and daughter team Suzanne and Katie, father-son team Van and Matt, and returning couples, Elizabeth and Tom, Dan and Jeree, John and Amanda, Greg and Brenda, Tom and Vanessa, Jeremiah and Christina, Jason and Julia, Trevit and Jodi, Nick, Jason, Kerri, Warren, the family Wallace I think that is most everybody who fished this week! A lot of people for August!

PERMIT (Palometta): Andrew got 2 permit this week, one of which was a very nice fish! Trevit got a beauty, Jason as part part of his grand slam got one, as did Dan and Jeremiah fulfilling their double slam.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon was the name o f the game this week as Kerri got right to work with a dream come true - a tarpon on the fly! Her work with Casting for Recovery and other women's organizations was rewarded as she must have built up the Karma needed to get it done! Tom and Vanessa got 2 in on their first day on the water and Tom finished with 8 landed tarpon for the week - all hail tarpon King Tom! Sayer caught her first tarpon while husband Dustin proudly coached her through the process. George jumped 4, Warren got one, Brenda got one, Jason (as part of his slam), Sandy, his twin grandsons Alex and Andrew proved they were not really as identical as they appeared. Andrew watched his brother catch tarpon while Alex seemed to be better at permit! Jodi landed a big one as part of her family slam, and father son team Van and Matt finished the week with some nice tarpon to the boat. Dan and Jeremiah also landed side by side tarpon on the way to their double slam!

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, snook, cuda, sharks, sting rays, and snappers galore.

Grand Slam: We had a family slam with Trevit and Jodi, Trevit got the permit and bonefish on Saturday and Jodi caught the tarpon the same day. A double grand slam for Dan and Jeremiah on their last day of fishing with each getting their slam later in the day (usually it is early in the day). Mid-week Jason went out with hopes of catching a tarpon, he came back with a grand slam!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Crazy Charlie variations, becks sili-legs.

FOR PERMIT - tan mantis shrimp, CI Special, Custom single strip avalon.

FOR TARPON - Black death, White toad, white deceiver live bait.

This Week's Summary:

Tarpon were back on the bite this week and the nice weather made it possible to fish anywhere we wanted. The grand slams tell it all - the weather was good and the fish were hungry.

Fish On!

FISHING REPORT

September 6th - September 12th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Partly to mostly cloudy this week with clearing near the end of the week

Winds: Moderate winds for 8-15 mph out of the East, Southeast

Air Temperature: Highs were in low 90's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 81-82 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.85- 29.99

Sunrise: 5:36 am Sunset: 6:10 pm

Moonphase: The new moon will be on the 13th

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Again there were no losers when it came to the bonefish - all those who attempted to catch bonefish ~ caught bonefish. Many were their first bonefish, and many were the first fish on a fly rod! Here is to all who participated!! The 2 Matts, Jeremy, Brian, Julie, Travis, Ashleigh, Matt, Nathan, David, Chris, the 3 Stephens, Larry, Vince, Jim, Scott, Will, Keelan, Nick, Vince, Brandon, Tyler, Chrissy, Jason, Joshua and more. Our heart felt thanks for visiting the lodge and I hope you wear your bonefish pins proudly!

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit fever - is defined 2 ways; as the inability to cast 20 feet when face to face with a large school of tailing permit, or as the addiction that occurs after you succeed! Congratulations to Brian who was the first of the week to land one, Chris had a gorgeous fish late in the week. Derek, a Florida Keys guide by trade, got his second permit of the trip while enjoying being on the front of the boat for a change. Chris #2 out fished his brother Scott and Dad Jim in the permit department!

TARPON (Sabalo): The big fish are still available even though September is the shoulder month for migratory tarpon. Aj's and Natalie's last day fell into this week, and it is only right that we acknowledge her big fish that completed her trip slam! Our good friend and returning guest Elizabeth made huge headway in casting her 10 weight tarpon rod and was rewarded with a nice take and first run only to be heartbroken when the leader broke way up at the loop knot connecting it to the fly line. She took it well, counting it as one more step to the holy grail - a big tarpon. Honeymooner Julie landed a 60-pound fish well south of the island, Keelan landed 2 separate 50 pound plus fish (with husband Will cheering her on). Nick and Steve got 3 tarpon between them one morning, and William and Larry coming in with tarpon to the boat as well. Several of these fish were light tackle and several were on the fly rod.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers, Ladyfish, Snook

Grand Slam: 2 grand Slams!! Will came back with a Grand Slam on his 4th of 4 days fishing! His wife Keelan had been dominating the trip until today!! Another member of his group Chris slammed on the third day out with a solid permit. He was counting our grand slam hall of fame and calculated it is about 20 people a year who slam here at El Pescador. Another honeymoon slam goes to Brian and Julie from Cincinnati as they teamed up over the week to land all three species - not in one day, or by one person but it is a great prize for a special time for them. A trip slam for Natalie that is added to her and AJ's honeymoon slam of last week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Gotcha, Mini Clouser (chartreuse)

FOR PERMIT - Mantis shrimp, Bauer Crab, Simram

FOR TARPON - Black death, Chartreuse bunny, Tan Toad

This Week's Summary:

A great group from Oldfield Outfitters in South Carolina graced the shores of our island this week. The group was a combination of light tackle fishermen and women, flyrodders and many who drifted between the two taking advantage of the daily fly casting clinics.

FISHING REPORT

September 6th - September 12th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly fair weather all week for partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, a few squalls here and there

Winds: 5-15 mph mostly from the east all week, with a few mornings showing some winds from the West

Air Temperature: Highs are in the upper 80's to low 90's lows in the mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-82 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.8 - 30.23

Moonphase: The last quarter moon was on July 8th. Sunrise: 5:40 am Sunset: 5:55 pm

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Our lovely bonefish came to the hooks of all who sought them out. Martin, Natasha, Andy, Rich, Edward, Maddy, Rich, Deborah, Ari, Nyugen, Gary, Debbie, Sheila, and David rounded out the bone fishers at the lodge this week.

PERMIT (Palometta): Ari, Andy, and Martin found their permit days as part of their grand slam day efforts! These were dinner plate size permit which are just a couple years old. These are beautiful fish born with the same annoying instincts when it comes to flies as their 20 pound parents! They just don't eat flies on a daily basis! Size does not matter when we are talking "I got a permit!"

TARPON (Sabalo): Ari, Andy, and Martin had their tarpon fall on their grand slam day efforts! The biggest tarpon of the week goes to the lovely Natasha who was visiting from the UK. She also had a smaller one earlier in the week (60 pounds). George and George Jr. teamed up for 2 tarpon on their outing and Richard landed 2 tarpon this week as well.

OTHER SPECIES: Ladyfish, Jacks were very cooperative, several species of snappers, a few snook, some Spanish Mackerel and many other species especially if you count the reef trips that went out... Tripletail, groupers, barracudas all came to the boat.

Grand Slam: Wow, three international travelers brought their A-Game this week! We get to award a rare Super Grand Slam today (9/18/15) to Ari, Martin (from the UK) got a Grand Slam on Monday and Andy (from the UK) got s Grand Slam on Thursday.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Pretty much if it was in front of a bonefish it worked, but our guides seem to like the simple lead eye CI special

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special, Bauer Crab, Foxy clouser.

FOR TARPON -

This Week's Summary:

Some of the best fishing of the year is in the summer nd fall here at El Pescador. It is just more likely that a person from the northern half of the US is going to visit us during the winter rather than now. So even though the fishing is at its peak we only had a few boats going out daily.

FISHING REPORT

September 20th - September 26th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly Cloudy, some days with drizzle some days with rain all day.

Winds: Moderate winds for 0-10 mph out of the East but shifting as light winds do.

Air Temperature: Highs were in high 780's to low 90's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 81-82 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.75- 29.91

Sunrise: 5:40 am Sunset: 5:50 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon will be on the 21st.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Isaac, Mark, Ari, Scott, John, John, Jefferson, Eric, Rich. Harvey, Ken, Branon, Josh, Ken, Richard Deborah, George, Stu, Ken, Coleman, all got the bonefish to do what they wanted. Some catches numbered in the 20's while other caught just a couple in a day. There were many first bonefish ever on a fly, which is a big step in anyone's saltwater flats career. We are blessed with a huge number of bonefish which we tend to take for granted.

PERMIT (Palometta): Our returning friend Robert had the only permit scored this week. Two of them to be exact as he took his time, waiting for the guide to say Ok, lets go; a perfect cast later, a fish was on. Repeat again! It sounds so easy to be cool in front of a permit; but the reality is that it makes grown men and women so nervous that we rush it, which never seems to work.

TARPON (Sabalo): The family Dozier were tarpon machines as they all produced at least one tarpon each. John Sr., John Jr., Jefferson and Uncle Scott seemed to have the tarpon's number despite the nasty rainy weather. Robert ( of permit fame above, landed 2 tarpon on his last day out on the water. Ari added three more tarpon this week, but his real claim to fame was the super grand slam of last week. One of our day fishing guests Kent landed 4 tarpon in 2 days of fishing. Branon & Josh landed a tarpon apiece after working it for several days getting more and more determined, then the next day they got 3 tarpon to the boat. Isaac made the best of his only day on the water with a sweet tarpon ( every tarpon is pretty sweet, right?) Harvey capped his week with a ninth inning tarpon to make it all worth while! Coleman has been working the tarpon on a fly thing for years and I am so happy that his quest became reality

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers, Ladyfish, Snook

Grand Slam: No slams this week I am betting on next week!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FISHING REPORT

October 11th - October 17th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly clear to partly cloudy early in week. Lots of rain and clouds later in the week.

Winds: Very calm winds for 0-5 mph out of the west but building to 20-30 as rain arrived

Air Temperature: Highs were in high 80's to low 90's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-81 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.78 - 29.92

Sunrise: 5:32 am Sunset: 5:35 pm

Moonphase: The new moon is on the 12th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Kathy and Karen worked each day to improve their skills and landed their first ever bonefish! Truman did the same as he was out every afternoon on the casting dock honing his casts. Return guest Jenny hit 100 feet on the dock and credits Isa's casting instruction! Al, Eric, Greg, Glen, Mic, along with some father/son teams Dad Al with Eric and Greg, Dave and Truman all prevailed with the bones landing a bunch. Couples like Brian and Carin, Jeff and Kimberly, Chip and Kathy, Nic and Cynthia, Jim and Angele, with group leaders Rob and Jenny, Dawn, Evan, Tim and more scored bonefish before the weather went south. (Actually it is moving north!)

PERMIT (Palometta): No permit were landed this week but Jenny had some great interest with a bunch of follows but no hookups. We heard other stories of typical permit behavior as well, brief moments of fish chasing a fly just to be snubbed with ruthless rejection.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon were prevalent and relatively cooperative this week. Jenny landed a couple, Jill got a beauty, and Dawn also landed 3 tarpon to top it off. By far the biggest tarpon of the week went to Brian with a 90-100 pound fish sighted on a 4 foot white sand flat. Carin got some great photos of this magnificent fish.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers, Snook, Ladyfish, Cobia

Grand Slam: No grand Slams.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Crazy Charlie tan , Crazy Charlie, pink

FOR PERMIT -

FOR TARPON - white toad, purple bunny, chartreuse bunny

This Week's Summary:

Congrats to Southwest Airlines on their inaugural flight from Houston to Belize. It was great to host Evan from Southwest here at the lodge. Unfortunately, stormy weather dominated much of the week. It was not an organized storm; but there was enough instability to give us lots of rain, and wind late in the week. In fact Saturday's fishing had to be canceled as the winds were above our safety threshold. Despite not so great weather, the hearty prevailed with bonefish and tarpon!

FISHING REPORT

October 16th - October 25th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Really pretty rainy to start the week with some dark and gray days. Partly cloudy for the rest of the week.

Winds: Moderate winds 0-12 mph from many directions.

Air Temperature: Highs were in high 80's to low 90's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-81 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.75 - 29.99

Sunrise: 5:43 am Sunset: 5:25 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon was on the 20th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): First bonefish ever kudos go to Erin, Michelle and Diane! Everyone was successful to a small or large degree with a one day total as high as 20 and as low as zero. Steve caught a mammoth fish that looks like it was 7-8 pounds which is as big as we see. The guide thought the school was a group of baby tarpon at first, that is how big the bonefish were. Many thanks to those who visited us this week, especially the women, Tricia, Michelle, Molly, Jennifer, Janet, Pam, Julie, Kathy, Linda, Bev, Diane, Rita, Martha and Mathanja (all the way from Germany), these female anglers/divers/snorkelers brightened the days for everyone, especially their husbands and partners who also love to fish, dive, and snorkel Belize. The men held their own (unless you count the permit totals below) Father and sons, Tom and Austin, Sy and Darren, Leif and Tom, Bill and Hunter, had their bonefish thirst quenched. Kent, Allen. Keith, Joe, Jed. Steve, Craig, Tony, John, Tom, Martin (with his sons Elias and Liam) Mike, Hugh, Russell all enjoyed the bonefish waters once the weather settled down.

A 40th Birthday bonefish went to Nathan and his family & friends who celebrated with him all week, Martha, Blair, His wife Kimberly, friends Betsy, Mimi all joined in the fun Nathan is still stewing about the half dozen tarpon he hooked but lost during his week here.

PERMIT (Palometta): The only permit hunters that were successful this week were returning guest Bev's first ever permit and Tricia duplicated the feat a day later. The permit princesses reigned!

TARPON (Sabalo): A whole bunch of tarpon were jumped this week but only a few came to the boat! Rusty was first up with a dancing silver king followed his beau Janet! Tony got into the tarpon club, And Keith was 4 for 6 one day - a lot better than the normal ration of landing 1 tarpon for every 10 hooked! Chase landed 2 tarpon on his last day of fishing and a weight was lifted off his shoulders, he did it!

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers, Snook, Ladyfish, triggerfish.. many more if you count the reef trips some guests enjoyed.

Grand Slam: Bev earned a trip slam or soft slam during her visit this year. A bonefish, permit and tarpon were landed much to the delight of her husband Dave.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Crazy Charlie tan , Crazy Charlie, pink

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special, Funny looking brown crab!

FOR TARPON - White toad, Chartreuse deceiver, Orange Cockroach.

This Week's Summary:

A family from Germany was here documenting Martins quest for a bonefish, tarpon and permit. What makes this remarkable is that Martin is in a wheelchair with very limited hand movement and no finger movement. With the help of some ingenious glove like devices he is able to grip the rod and strip line El Pescador is the starting point for a documentary with a working title of "30 Reasons" which makes me think Martin is looking at 27 other species after he masters a bonefish, permit and tarpon!
