An abandoned house on the north side of the bridge by the old hammock house that was being torn down over the last few days caught fire last night. The San Pedro Fire department was able to quickly bring the small fire under control.

This morning around 6am they were called out once again and another small fire was again brought under control.

At around 8:30 am they received more calls as the structure was once again ablaze. This time the fire truck got stuck in the muddy property and was unable to get to the burning house.

Thanks to San Pedro Town Council who brought out their backhoe and were able to pull the truck out so the fire department could get the blaze under control and eventually extinguished.

The fire destroyed most of the structure leaving a burnt out hollow shell. Smoke in the area was intense and the wind carried the smoke toward Holy Cross school.

The workers that were tearing down the building fled the scene and were unable to be located.

The Fire Department is investigating and charges may be forthcoming.

We'll have an interview with the Fire Chief of San Pedro tomorrow on the Breeze.

Wasn't Tom Vidren the previous owner and lately belonged to Vernon Wilson?

A fourth attempt was made to burn down the old abandoned house by the bridge.

San Pedro Fire Department were called out around 6pm Saturday Night when the burnt out shell was set ablaze once again.

Newton Lennan, Chief officer of the San Pedro Fire department said he wants the culprits charged.
It is alleged that the workers assigned to tear down the house keep setting it on fire.

He explained that if you want to bring down a house by fire, there are permits to be obtained and procedures to follow.
You can't just burn down a house even if it's yours said Lennan.
Town council must approve it and the Fire department must be notified so that they can be there to monitor it and bring it down safely.

You can hear our interview with the chief today at 8am, 11am, 2pm & 5pm on
