Tonight a well-known San Pedro resident is behind bars after he was arraigned last week Friday for the rape of a minor. Even though we report on many incidents of rape and all of them are distasteful, this one is right up there with the worst. President of the San Pedro Taxi Association, Alfonso Wiltshire, fifty, is accused of forcibly raping a thirteen year old girl at least five times, once by allegedly holding a gun to her head. According to sources in the police, Wiltshire, who owns an apartment building on the island, would use his keys to enter the room of the victim when her mother was not there. He would then rape her and allegedly threaten to kill her if she told anyone. News Five has confirmed through multiple sources that the minor was too afraid to tell anyone. But the victim’s five year old sister witnessed one of those terrible violations and told her mother, and that is when the matter was reported to Police. They immediately launched an investigation and things ramped up into high gear late last week when Police got wind of information that Wiltshire planned to flee the island. They locked down the airstrip and departure points and then moved in to arrest the businessman and taxi-driver on Thursday. Wilshire was arraigned on Friday after Police received the results of a medical examination which confirmed that the minor had been carnally known. The alleged predator was remanded to the Belize Central Prison, but police tell us that the investigation is ongoing. They believe that Wiltshire may have used his landlord status to target victims between the ages of ten and fourteen. Police are appealing for victims of the predator, or anyone with information, to get in touch with them as soon as possible.

Wiltshire was arrested and charged on Friday, October 15th for the rape of a 13-year-old female, and his official charges were two counts of ‘aggravated burglary’ along with two counts of ‘unlawful sexual intercourse’.

This came after the female minor reported to police that Wiltshire raped her multiple times dating back to May 3rd, when he entered her home with a black handgun, threatened that he would kill her if she told anyone and then raped her. Afraid of Wiltshire’s threat, the girl told no-one of the incident and she was raped again on October 2nd, when he again threatened and raped her.

After the report was made, police did an intensive investigation on the well-known taxi man and landlord, which included a medical examination of the victim, who was confirmed as being carnally known.

Her injuries were considered by the medical practitioner as ‘grievous harm’ and with the evidence gathered, police arrested Wiltshire through a special operation. He was then charged and remanded into prison until his court date.

San Pedro Police believes that there may be other victims of Wiltshire’s violence and encourage the public to give the police any information they may have by visiting the police station or calling 206-2022.

Not to be confused with his brother Jesus who is younger but bears a striking resemblance to Alfonso.

Police Confirms Charges of Rapist on Ambergris Caye

Earlier this week we told you the story of the traumatized 13-year-old girl from San Pedro who had been raped multiple times at gun point by her family’s landlord. We had told you that the well-known businessman, 50-year-old, Alfonso Wiltshire has since been arraigned and remanded at the Belize Central Prison. Today, a report came out of the Belize Police Department indicating that Wiltshire was charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse. The report went on to confirm that the child was medically examined on Tuesday, October 20 which confirmed that she was carnally known and her injuries were classified as grievous harm. The child told police that she was raped on May 2, 2015 and again on October 2, 2015 in the presence of her younger sister. Wiltshire is a taxi operator, President of a taxi association on the island and a member of the San Pedro Chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association.

54-year-old accused rapist of child, 13, remanded

Alphonso Wiltshire, 54, president of the San Pedro Taxi Association and a landlord of San Juan, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Friday in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse for raping a 13-year-old girl.

Police say that Wiltshire went into the girl’s home when she was alone, and raped her at gunpoint, threatening her life if she reported him to police.

The girl, in the presence of her mother, told police that Wiltshire had raped her more than once, the first time occurring on Sunday, May 3. Wiltshire, she said, came into the home, showed her his gun and told her not to tell anyone, or he would kill her.

He then began touching and fondling her, and raped her. Fearing for her life, the girl did not tell anyone.

At about 1:00 on Friday, October 2, the child was at home along with her younger sister when Wiltshire again went into the home, threatened her with the gun, and again raped her.

A neighbor saw what had happened and told police, who took the child to the San Pedro Polyclinic, where a doctor certified that she had been carnally known, and the injury to her private parts was classified as grievous harm.

Police later arrested Wiltshire in San Pedro.

Superintendent Henry Jemmott, Commander of San Pedro Police, told Amandala that because Wiltshire used his firearm to rape the girl, the gun has been confiscated and his license revoked.

Police said that if it were not for the brave witness who alerted the police, the rape of the child would have remained a secret, and the threats to her life would have continued, with apparently no end.

Section 47 Subsection 1 of the Substantive Laws of Belize Revised Edition 2000 states that every person, who carnally knows a girl under the age of 14, with or without her consent, shall on conviction on indictment be imprisoned for a period of no less than 12 years, but which can be extended to life imprisonment.

Section 48 of the Substantive Laws Revised Edition 2000 states that if a person is found guilty of the offense of rape or carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 14 years on more than two occasions, notwithstanding anything contained in the codes or any laws to the contrary, he shall be sentenced to a mandatory term of life imprisonment.

Alfonso Wiltshire out on bail
It has been over a month since member of the San Pedro Taxi Association, 50-year-old Alfonso Wiltshire, was arrested and charged for the rape of a 13-year-old female child. He was consequently charged with two accounts of Aggravated Burglary and two counts of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse and remanded to the Belize Central Prison. The taxi drivers’ incarceration did not last long, and he is now out on bail and back to work. This has raised questions in the community, and residents want to know how this can happen. According to San Pedro Police, Wiltshire was granted bail by the Supreme Court under conditions unknown to them, as they are waiting for a full report. “It’s his right to get Supreme Court bail and due to the nature of the crime he qualified for it,” said the station sergeant. Police emphasized that Wiltshire is not free but on bail, which means that he is required to attend a court trial for the case to continue, where at the end, a decision will be made if sufficient evidence is on hand to find him either guilty or not.
