Christmas is around the corner and for the Salvation Army that means all its agents will be out in the streets with the goal to raise money. This morning the Salvation Army launched its annual Christmas Kettle Appeal downtown Belize City with the intention of raising one hundred thousand dollars. Regional Commander, Major Joliker Leandre, told us why you should donate.

MAJOR JOLIKER LEANDRE

“The target is $100,000. Last year we came very close to it, we are hoping that this year we can reach it.”

“Why should I find it in my heart to donate to the Salvation Army?”

MAJOR JOLIKER LEANDRE

“Most of the time the public gives us the answer. You can come and see what we do around the Christmas time, all the various programs that we have for the people in the community so that will encourage you to give. So that is one of the reasons we invite all donors on various sporting locations where we have the destructions so that they can see for themselves and when they see they keep giving every year. So that will be our motivation this year.”

“Personally what is the feeling you get when you see children happy with it?”

MAJOR JOLIKER LEANDRE

“The feeling cannot be expressed. To know that you put a smile on somebody’s face, to know that someone is going to have a better Christmas as a result of your contribution I think the feeling cannot be explained and that’s why we want to share it with the entire public.”

“A big part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility policy looks at giving back to the community and so this year we decided to step that up a little bit more with the Salvation Army. In previous years we have supported their toy drive but this year we went a little bit beyond that. They are an organization that has been around for very many years and so it was good way for us to kind of extend the reach that we have done in the past. The contribution to the Salvation Army is one of many that we do, coming up in the next few weeks we are going to be a doing a work with Hand in Hand Ministries as well that looks at building a house with the support of the staff of the Belize Bank as well as the Hand in Hand Ministries team and it’s also an extension of the additional activities that we do to pretty much impact the communities in which we serve.”

General Manager for the Marketing Departmet at Belize Bank Limited, Shakira Tsai, handed over a cheque of five thousand dollars to the Salvation Army.
