FISHING REPORT

October 26th - November 4th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly fair weather all week with some partly cloudy to mostly cloudy days, a few squalls here and there.

Winds: 0-15 mph mostly from the east all week, with a few mornings showing some winds from the North and West.

Air Temperature: Highs are in the upper 80's to low 90's with lows in the low to mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-81 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.80 - 29.96

Sunrise: 5:55 am Sunset: 5:22 pm

Moonphase: The full moon was on October 27th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The only guests who didn't catch a bonefish were the ones that didn't fish for bonefish! What a group, Keith and Susan, Paul, Frank, Jake, Ben, Jim, Troy and Nancigail, Shannon and Ty, Nathan, Alex, Jose, newlyweds Laura and Lars, newlyweds Cullen and Grant, Newlyweds Thomas and Witney, John and Joni, Matt, Jim, Kirk, Max, Rick, Jean, our young German friends Elias and Liam with their parents Martin and Mathanya all received the coveted El Pescador bonefish awards this week.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit honors go to Mike, Troy and Paul who all outfoxed the wily permit this week. Lots of shots at these beautiful fish, but only a few takes. Frank was heartbroken when his permit broke as the knot from the backing to fly line ticked through... Arghhh! Almost a grand slam!

TARPON (Sabalo): Congratulations to our good friend and returning guest Tom for landing his biggest tarpon to date - a solid 50 pounder out on the flats! Orvis' fearless leader Dan put one on the board his first day out, Paul and Frank were thrilled with their tarpon - what a blast! Troy got really busy with a total of three (3 that I know of anyway) And Ben got a nice "roadie" tarpon while golf cart fishing on his own with the help of our handy DIY maps. There are a couple holes just off the road that very few people fish! Returning guest Keith was getting tarpon to eat daily but they were just not sticking. The bites were straight on feeds where the tarpon does not turn away with the fly. Many of these bites end up with the fly pulling straight out of the mouth.

OTHER SPECIES: Ladyfish, Jacks were very cooperative, several species of snappers, a few snook and lots of barracuda.

Grand Slam: A soft slam goes to Troy for his bonefish, permit and tarpon over his trip to El Pescador.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Pretty much if it was in front of a bonefish it worked, but our guides seem to like the simple lead eye CI special more than any other fly we have!

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special, Bauer Crab

FOR TARPON - A striper fly similar to a sand eel, White toads, Chartreuse Deceiver

This Week's Summary:

Orvis' fall Bonefish bonanza was a great success with many guests fishing outside the bonefish box for permit and tarpon! Many thanks to Sarah and Dan from Orvis travel for putting this trip together and hosting a great bunch of folks. There were lots of brand new Helios 2 rods on hand for all to use.

FISHING REPORT

November 1st - November 14th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Weather over these 2 weeks was good to start with lots of rain towards the end.

Winds: Moderate winds 0-12 mph from many directions.

Air Temperature: Highs were in mid 80's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.82 - 29.95

Sunrise: 5:55 am Sunset: 5:15 pm

Moonphase: The first new moon was on the 11th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Hardly a fishing day goes by without every guest catching a bonefish, usually if it happens it is because the angler decides to fish for tarpon or permit all day. This was true these 2 weeks despite some poor weather late in the last week. There were several large bonefish caught in the 4-pound range and a single report of a fish over 6 pounds. Orvis' Bonefish School and Orvis' Bonefish Bonanza dominated the activity. The school's student took the first morning for some classroom work with knots, techniques, strip strike practice to get a little ahead of the game before they fished that afternoon. Sara & Sean, Rich and Lee, Victor and Mary, Tracy and David, gary and Debbie, Jerry and Gloria, David and Linda, Ron and Sissy, William, Steve, Robert, Julian, Cameron, Lance, Robert, Leo and Sue, Peter and Jackie, Jim and Lindsay, John and Emily, Vance and Ian, Robert and Marie, Justin and Sara, Howard and Janet, Rick, Bill, Jeff, Chris, Scott, Navid, Mickey And Becky, Randy and Brenda Daniel, Rob, Frank, Mike, Jim and Gail, Meredith and Charles, Brian and Leanna, Ron, Fred all enjoyed some great bonefishing here in Northern Belize.

PERMIT (Palometta): Return guest Jean landed 2 permit mid way through his trip I believe these were his first Belizean permit. Brian, Troy and David each landed a permit during their stay at El Pescador. Oops, I almost forgot Cameron and Lance for their permit! Lots more shots, follows and a few hookups were also reported. Overall a significanrt number of permit were fooled by the fly this week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Bill started it off with a nice tarpon, Julian and Kyle were tarpon masters, Cameron, Lance, Jeff, and Justin got their tickets to tarpon stardom as well. Congratulations to all.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers, Snook, Ladyfish, triggerfish.. many more if you count the reef trips some guests enjoyed.

Grand Slam: Not this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Bauer Crab

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special, Bauer Crab

FOR TARPON - White toad, Chartreuse deceiver, Orange Cockroach

This Week's Summary:

Many thanks to Pete for his leadership as the Orvis host for the 2 events, A mixed bag of weather didn't help the results but overall it was very successful.

FISHING REPORT

November 15th - November 21st, 2015

Weather Conditions: First half of the week was cloudy, rainy and windy - the last half cleared up but remained windy!

Winds: Moderate winds 0-12 mph from many directions

Air Temperature: Highs were in mid 80's with lows in the mid to upper 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.76 - 29.92

Sunrise: 5:59 am Sunset: 5:15 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon is on the 19th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish is our middle name and we are proud to wear it! It would be much easier to just list the folks that didn't catch a bonefish, but the truth is the fishing was pretty tough due to a pretty gusty northeast wind. None the less bonefish were caught every day on every boat that tried. Congratulations to new members of the bonefish club and the veterans that have landed hundreds. Daniel, Craig, Carol, Michael (from the UK) John and Kelly, Alan and Nancy, Rich and Marye, Robin and Buzz, Leo, Dennis, Barry, Miles, Gary, Sulu, Mary Kay all enjoyed the diving, snorkeling and bonefishing.

PERMIT (Palometta): Our sole permit master this week was Josh who was fishing with his lovely bride of 5 years, Kelly. A great feat considering the weather was so poor.

TARPON (Sabalo): Gary started out the week strong with a nice tarpon on his second day out. Leo landed his first real tarpon. I say real only because that is what Leo said - his only other tarpon was about 12 inches long and after he landed this 35 pounder he realized the first one really didn't count! It impressed his new bride of just a few days , Amy, with a tarpon on their last of 3 days

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers

Grand Slam: Not this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Crazy Charlie tan , Crazy Charlie pink

FOR PERMIT - Peterson shrimp

FOR TARPON - Black death, Purple bunny, Peanut butter

This Week's Summary:

A fairly quiet week with just a few boats going out daily. Lots of great couples this week including some honeymooners - Tim and Amy and John and Megan celebrated some great times here at EL Pescador. We are so happy to have been a part of their celebrations.

FISHING REPORT

November 22nd - December 5th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly cloudy days, windy early in the week but a little more clear late in the week with less wind.

Winds: 5-15 mph North, Northeast, Northwest, a sign of cooler weather to come.

Air Temperature: Highs were in mid 80's with lows in the mid to upper 70's

Water Temperature: Temp: 80 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 30.03 - 29.81

Sunrise: 6:06 am Sunset: 5:14 pm

Moonphase: The last quarter moon was on the 3rd.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Some long-time friends fished with us this week, Dean, Scott, Dave, Wayne, Dennis and Charles have been to El Pescador a combined 30 plus times and it is always a pleasure to host our extended El Pescador family. Jim and Sharon fooled some bonefish, Jerry and Mandy, Dave and Erica ( first bonefish ever) Jill and Guy (Jill's first ever), Nathan and Diana (her first), Wade with his first bonefish, Adam, Tyler sand Emily added bonefish to their species list.. Gary and Elaine, Pete and Richard, Ray and Jay, Wade and Adam, all enjoyed some great bonefishing. The biggest fish of the week was right off the dock here at the lodge as Nathan landed "Bob" a nice 4-5 pounder that hangs out here at the lodge

PERMIT (Palometta): Joe was the first to land a permit this week, as the first angler to land this devilish fish. Rich and Adam joined the club later in the week with a couple of nice fish. There were several boats who made some good shots, got some good follows, even a bite or two but no dice. They just didn't eat.

TARPON (Sabalo): Dave was bound and determined to land a tarpon he spied in our back lagoon. He was fishing on his own for a couple days and saw 2 fish in the same spot both days - Next armed with a tarpon fly and leader he was able to hookup and keep the fish out of the mangroves - a solid 10 pounder all on his own! Nathan got 2 to eat and jumped a third on his first day out, Ray was victorious in his tarpon quest, and Adam ( on his honeymoon) landed a nice tarpon towards the end of the week.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracudas, Snappers

Grand Slam: Joy was determined for us to acknowledge her bonefish, snapper and barracuda grand slam but unfortunately after careful review, the ruling on the water was upheld, it is not a grand slam in this or any country!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Peterson shrimp, CI special, micro crabs

FOR PERMIT - CI Special, Mantis shrimp

FOR TARPON - Purple bunny, black toad, black deceiver

This Week's Summary:

Old friends fished with us this week, and it is always a pleasure to host our extended El Pescador family. Weather still not 100% but the fishing was still solid.

Air Temperature: Highs were in low to mid 80's with lows in the mid 70's.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Welcome back thanks go to returning guests Charles and son Philip, Charlie and Casey, Dan, Archie, Wayne, Bob and Karen, Scott and John. Bonefish are a given for these folks but their presence here at the lodge is not! Dan got some nice size fish in the 3-5 pound range. Nathan and Diana, joined our bonefish club as did Fred and Judy, Heather and Todd, George and Cindy, Dan and Barb, Kevin And Christien, Stacy and Michael, Adam and Ashley, and Tyler and Emily. We hate to take our bonefish for granted here on Ambergris so each week we remind ourselves how lucky we are to be surrounded by so many fish.

PERMIT (Palometta): Newlyweds Ashley and Adam (married right here at El Pescador) took turns with the permit as Adam was on board first followed by Ashley's slam permit later in the week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Casey and Charlie had a tarpon thing going with their guide, landing at least 4 during the week. Casey was too humble to admit exactly how many he caught. Ashley got a nice mangrove tarpon to complete her slam, Adam's honeymoon slam was completed with his first tarpon on a fly!

OTHER SPECIES: Barracudas, Snappers, Snook

Grand Slam: Ashley did it all this week, got married, enjoyed her honeymoon and managed a grand slam in between! Adam her new husband almost slammed the same day but missed the tarpon. Adam is credited with a honeymoon slam with all three species caught on his honeymoon week.

FOR TARPON - white deceiver, gummy minnow, black death

This Week's Summary:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Mike and Jane started off with bonefish and then got seduced by tarpon fishing later in the week, Larry, Brian, Fred and Judy, Craig and Spencer, Brandon and Robert, Brian, Eric, Trent, Kevin and Christine, James and Carol ~ all had some sweet success among the bonefish population here on Ambergris Caye. Returning friends Ted and Wing, Larry, Archie, Robert, Brain all knew about our cooperative bonefish at El Pescador and were not disappointed. A few nice fish were caught both in front of the lodge, and in the lagoon system behind the lodge this week, during some after hour fishing escapades.

PERMIT (Palometta): James landed the biggest of the week, with a nice thick 15 pound beauty, Brandon says his was not as big but he was till extremely pleased with his first permit. Father and son team Craig and Spencer landed permit on the same day late in their trip and was followed up by John who landed the last permit of the week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Fred was first on the list with his tarpon, James landed a baby tarpon as part of his slam day a nice 10 pounder. ( these smaller tarpon are the most fun as they jump like crazy and take just a few minutes to tire out) Jane hooked up big time a=on a nice tarpon and 2 other boats up to a mile a way heard her excitement as the fish bolted so fast she could not let go of the line fast enough, ending up with a slice in her stripping finger! Robert rounded out the week with his tarpon.

With a nice slam to top it off. What fun!

Keep in mInd Go-Yoga has a great classes designed for the sport of Fly fishing

www.go-yoga.org

Remember we travel to you and with you, so let us know if you would like to schedule a special class during your guests tip.

YOGA ON THE FLY
Ever experience lower back pain during or after fishing? At times on the water you will get locked into a productive hole for an extended bit of time. Shoulders getting tight from holding too long, waiting in anticipation. Sometimes you find yourself standing on an uneven bed of shallow water just a little off balance, or simply planted in one spot. Your lower back will tend to get stiff in those situations. Practicing just a couple of poses such as bridge, for example, or cat cow- will help you stretch out your lower back before going to the flats. Just a handful of positions can help improve your balance. You might not be ready for the dancer or crow but you definitely can do some poses that will help you keep your feet on the ground: the seemingly simple tree pose is common and a good place to start. If that doesn't get you going we can move to a more challenging balance pose such as warrior III that you will find yourself naturally doing chasing a catch. You soon realise you've been doing yoga all along and you never even knew it. You came here to fish. Make the most of it by incorporating a little yoga every day into the experience and you will leave your vacation feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and very excited to return.

FISHING REPORT

December 20th - December 26th, 2015

Weather Conditions: A solid week of crazy wind and mostly clear skies

Winds: 18-30 mph rotating from North to Southeast and everything in between.

Air Temperature: Highs were in low to mid 80's with lows in the mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 30.05 - 29.81

Sunrise: 6:16 am Sunset: 5:20 pm

Moonphase: The first quarter moon is on the 18th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Our guests took comfort from the wind on some of the secluded flats on the west side of the island with bonefish days ranging from 1-25 fish. Winds like this limit our fishery to a fraction of its normal size. Flats that are normally clear are riled up, wide open flats were just too windy to try so it takes some patience , some blind casting and perseverance to make things happen, A great Christmas week with lots of families visiting; Husband and wife Jeff and Peggy, Jeff, John and Ali, Bryan, Molly, James, Robert, Davis and John, Michael, Naomi, and Seth Robert, Pam, and Kim, Matson, Sam, Sawyer and Susie, Charles, Elizabeth, and Josie, Steven, Wyatt and Jackson, Robert, Bobby, Natalie, William, and Tobias, Nancy and Gray, Hill, Cornelia, Cornelia 2 and William, Jonathan, Samantha (Sam), George and Thomas, Most of them took part is some good bonefishing despite the wind

PERMIT (Palometta): Two permit were landed this week one of which led to a Grand Slam! Gray visited the lodge with his lovely wife Nancy and was rewarded with a very big permit early on in his trip. Mike persevered through the heavy wind and off color water and managed an unlikely permit.

TARPON (Sabalo): Mike was the only success story for tarpon although there were many hookups that ended in the dreaded long distance release. Our famous tarpon flats were totally out of shape with the high winds we experienced this week so the only tarpon fishing that was available was searching around likely mangrove creeks and lagoons.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracudas, Snappers, ladyfish, tripletail, triggerfish, Jacks

Grand Slam: Mike's Slam happened during the worst of the wind and his success kept all the other fishermen going this week. We wish Mike all the best as he rushed back to the states after falling ill with some heart related issues. His prognosis is good and we are hoping for a speedy recovery to celebrate his grand slam!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - CI-Special, Crazy Charlie

FOR PERMIT - Avalon (small one), Christmas Island Specials

FOR TARPON - White toad

This Week's Summary:

The wind was tough but the anglers persevered and got some good fishing in. Christmas was celebrated with one of the largest group of guests El Pescador has hosted. The family atmosphere was wonderful.

Although she had realistic expectations, her confidence was high. Success along side her father Charles as they each landed a fish early on, shared one and Charles caught the third! Jacob landed his first permit, Jonathan came all the way from England to land a permit (the slam was foiled by a tarpon who ate his fly but did not stay on) Brady got a beauty and Len almost slammed after he landed his permit, but the tarpon are the pesky ones this week! John got the biggest of the week with a great fish landed.

FISHING REPORT

Jan. 3rd - Jan. 9th, 2016

Weather Conditions: A bit cloudy and windy to start and then clearing with calmer winds late in the week.

Winds: 10-15 early in the week down to calm midweek and then a 10 mph breeze on Saturday from North to southeast and everything in between.

Air Temperature: Highs were in low to mid 80's with lows in the mid 70's

Water Temperature: Temp: 79 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 30.08 - 29.80

Sunrise: 6:25 am Sunset: 5:33 pm

Moonphase: The new moon was on the 9th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish (Macabi); BTT tagged 748 fish in 4 days of tagging! This is part of an important study to learn more about the bonefish here in Belize. How fast do they grow, how far do they travel? Tagging will help.

Carson and the Kim enjoyed their first bonefishing here on the island. Kim and Carson learned just before they arrived that they have a baby that should arrive in July - just in time for tarpon season ( you can't start too early).

Doug and Taryn, Sarah and Matt, Joe and Chris, Tim and Tommy, Eileen and Brian, Bill and will, Rusty and Ian, Frank, Simon and Jamie, Brad, Rick and Steven, Mark, Cameron, Rob and Susan all had some great fun at the lodge and most honed their bonefish skills.

PERMIT (Palometta): One angler actually landed one of the previously tagged permit the next day (boy, it is not this fish's week!) Tim led the permit parade with 5 permit this week (one really big one), Will not far behind with 3,Tom got one, Steve landed 3 in 3 days, Taryn got her first ever, not to be outdone, her husband Doug also landed his first permit! Congrats to Cameron on a permit during his stay.

TARPON (Sabalo): A bunch of tarpon were hooked but only two made it to the boat. Mark was successful with a Silver King and Frank started at the top and chose not to fish for bonefish so was awarded the only tarpon pin of the week but no bonefish pins.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Barracuda, Snappers, Snook

Grand Slam: Mike's Slam happened during the worst of the wind and his success kept all the other fishermen going this week. We wish Mike all the best as he rushed back to the states after falling ill with some heart related issues. His prognosis is good and we are hoping for a speedy recovery to celebrate his grand slam!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - CI-Special, Crazy Charlie

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Specials, EP Spawning Shrimp, Bauer crab

FOR TARPON - White Toad and Black Death patterns had some bites

This Week's Summary:

Aaron Adams from Bonefish Tarpon Trust cam down with 3 assistants to help with some tagging, and tag they did. Our guides found the fish and then helped the BTT fellows rounded them up. They tagged 748 bonefish and 14 permit in the 4 days they worked. We already caught one of the tagged permit! We really appreciate the work they are doing and hope you will support them by buying a membership. Call or join online Bonefish and Tarpon Trust or 321-674-7758
