San Pedro Police visited the island’s polyclinic around 11:00 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of an incident in which 35-year-old clothes vendor, Abigail Lopez, was stabbed to several parts of her body.
Upon arrival, officers saw Lopez bleeding from wounds to the face, neck and chest area. She stated that while sitting on the beachfront dock, a Hispanic male went to sit beside her, then began to fondle her and requested sex.
When Lopez denied the man’s request, he reportedly grabbed her by the hair, broke a bottle and stabbed her before making his escape.
A 24-year-old man of the San Mateo area has been detained by police and is pending investigation.
Woman Escapes Rape on Ambergris Caye
Authorities on Ambergris Caye are investigating a report made by a 35-year-old woman who says she was sexually assaulted in physically injured whilst sitting on a dock near the beach. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, November 30 at around eleven o’clock that night. The woman, Abigail Lopez, told police that whilst on the dock, she was approached by a Hispanic man. The man sat beside her and began fondling her and subsequently asked her to have sex with him. Lopez says she fought off the man but he grabbed her by the hair, held her down and began stabbing her with a broken bottle. He escaped from the area and she had managed to get to the San Pedro Polyclinic where she was treated and questioned by the police. Police have since detained a 24-year-old man from the San Mateo area pending further investigations.
San Pedro Police Have Salvadorean Suspect For Rape of 70 Year Old Woman
San Pedro police have tracked down a man who is believed to be responsible for at least one heinous rape and one attempted on the island. He is a Hispanic male from El Salvador and police believe he is the one who rape and beat up a 70 year old woman on the island three weeks ago. And he was caught last night after he tried to rape another woman last night. He pulled her into a dark area near her house, but she managed to get away. Thereafter, someone in the neighborhood beat him up. Police say they will conduct an ID parade after his swelling subsides. They are also contacting Interpol to see if he is wanted in his country of origin.
