San Pedro celebrates 31 years of Township

The National Secondary School Association (NSSA) Northern Regional Basketball Championship was held over the weekend in Corozal Town. The games took place at the Corozal Complex on Saturday, November 29th, and saw four high schools competing for the top prize and the opportunity to represent the country’s Northern Division at the National Championship level. At the end of the games, it was the San Pedro High School (SPHS) female team and the Muffles College High School (MCHS) male team that walked away with the win.

Four games were played at the beginning of the competition and it was sudden death style: anyone who lost was automatically eliminated. In the first game of the first run off the SPHS girls and CCC faced off. The CCC girls were no match to the island girls who easily won the game with a clean 20-0 victory. But unfortunately the SPHS boys were defeated by Muffles with an advantage of 12 points. During the championship match SPHS girls took on the NHHS girls, who proved to be a challenge. NHHS responded basket after basket but could not break down the SPHS girls, who managed to claim the first place title in a 22-10 ballgame.
