Las alfombras del Viernes Santo (The Mats of Good Friday) is a tradition in Benque Viejo Del Carmen Town in Belize which commemorates the death of Jesus Christ. The community gathers together to make various designs on the streets where the Santo Entierro (holy funeral) passes by later in the evening which is carred out by the procession. They are designed by vaious materals such as sawdust, salt, flour which are colored using various other materials to create the designs which represent christian images and messages.
