Does anyone know how the Easter weekend went? We were there from March 30 to April 6 and missed everything. We're booking our return trip and because of the way Spring Break falls next year, we will be on the island April 12-April 19. This means we will hit Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Although we are looking forward to the Easter celebration festivities, I am concerned about the notice put out this year by Assistant Superintendent Henry Jemmott stating about all the increased police presence:
the an intensive mobilization from the police department...on Saturday, there will be police officers in all the main areas of town, especially at the water taxi docks where they will be checking on passengers arriving and leaving the island. At the same time, there will be extra patrols on the northern side of the island to enhance safety for people who visit places such as the Secret Beach. As part of the increase in island officers on the island for the weekend, Jemmott mentioned that there will be more patrols on the beaches, and even a boat patrol on the lagoon and front side of Ambergris Caye.
Did this take place this year? We're in our late 40's and responsible (but like to drink); however I'd rather not have to stay around our house 2 out of seven days. We don't mind being checked on to remain safe as long as it's not excessive.
