From Monkey River: We had a heavy 20 minute storm at 10pm last night. The worst since we lost half our solar panels and roof down at Monkey River some 6 years ago. The rain was heavy and a very high wind made it deafening. Fortunately no damage noted but I expect a few trees to be horizontal,

The storm itself was a carbon copy of the previous night, except MUCH heavier

From Toledo: Got 1 1/2" last night and 1/4" the night before, in Toledo.

From Belmopan...

OK, that bubble of cool air has now reached us. But that last night rain was due to a normal ITCZ swell-up, where as all the others earlier swell-ups were to our west, this swell-up was right above central Belize, causing significant rain in many parts. North Belmopan I measured 25mm ( 1" ) around 10pm last night. That was an ITCZ swell-up, not necessarily associated with the cool air we are now getting from the north or SW, shown with the light blue surface wind arrow. A rather different cause to the previous nights rain, which was two air masses pushing against each other.

Looks like today will be largely sunny, as the cloud thins this morning. No rain on the radar over Belize, I am not expecting rain today, but we could possibly have more tonight, which is the main time these swell-ups occur.

Last night was a typical ITCZ swell-up. . . . Again rapid warm air rising, as it starts to condense into cloud, it gains heat as it condenses, so the rise continues, ever faster, causing massive amounts of rain. . . . Initially, when this air rises rapidly, surface air has to move in to replace it, so we get the serious horizontal surface winds, then when there is so much rain and cold air coming down, it forces air out sideways, so another cause of very strong wind gusts.

The lightning being caused by the rapid air rising, rubbing against the other air it is rising up through, charging the clouds, until there are electrical discharges.

Temperatures in Belmopan:
Today is probably going to be Similar, to yesterday : Thu, max. 33°C 93°F Last night min. 24°C 75°F ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
