Over the past few weeks, the entire island of Ambergris Caye has experienced low water pressure at varying times throughout the day. Many residents on the island have complained about the inconvenience the lowered pressure has caused, and are wondering when Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL) will address the issue.

One resident, unsatisfied with service from BWSL, placed a call to figure out the reason for the low water pressure. “I called them and they said that Belize Consolidated Water Service has not kept up with their maintenance on time, so they had to lower the pounds per square inch (psi). Then they said that BWS does not have enough storage, and that’s the reason they lowered the psi.”

However, according to a BWSL employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, they are aware of the problem and extends apologies to island residents and visitors for any inconvenience that the water supply restrictions may have caused. “We do not produce our own water…we purchase water from Consolidated Water. The demand of water in San Pedro is high, and at times, Consolidated Water cannot produce as much. So in order to provide water to all of our consumers, we minimize the water pressure. We are working very hard to solve this issue. It’s our mission to provide water to our customers, and we do not want to get constant complaints on our services. We understand that people want good pressure, but we ask that our customers bear with us,” said the employee.
