Why would a non-profit HOA charge GST at 12.5%? I understand that if you are renting the condo that you have to pay a hotel tax or GST. But the HOA charging a GST tax is outrageous. Sounds like just another way for the HOA to screw you or the government to screw you.

The GST program is fairly simple and easy to understand.....However you can always ask your HOA to provide you with a GST tax ID number....Services are taxable in addition to many tangible items.....Just like many Federal, Municipal or County governments in the US, taxes are required.....We pay our share and we are required by law to provide our guests with a receipt to include the TAX ID number and the GST amount....Not sure if this helps however you can learn more here www.gst.gov.bz/downloads/Act-49-2005.pdf

The law requires the HOA's of all condo projects to charge GST on the monthly maintenance fees.
