Our flight comes in tomorrow evening and was just wanting to know if the island floods. We will be on the south side of the island. Should we cancel our trip and come back some other time?

I'm on Caye Caulker and this storm is really bad. I don't think anyone will be able to answer your question until we all go out and see what kind of damage is out there in the morning. It's possible flights wont have started up again.

power is out and internet is spotty
as far as I know there was no loss of life.
tons of piers damaged or destroyed.
the water came up high, but washed over island and did not stay. seas are back to normal levels.
things are a mess today.
it was bad, but it was dark out so hard to know what it looked like at the peak!

Keep in mind that there is no electricity and the resorts that have generators are having trouble getting diesel fuel so they may not have electricity for long. There is no diesel available on the Island from what I hear.

When will power be restored.......anyone's guess at this time. I'm not in Belize right now but many friends are keeping me informed. I would guess that gasoline is also not available but I don't know that for sure. That would mean your mode of transportation will be a bike or walking. Can't charge electric carts.

Hopefully recovery will not take too long. So much property damage along the windward shore to docks and structures over the water. I'm so sorry for your losses. I wouldn't advise any tourist to travel there for the next few days until a clearer picture of the damage and recovery is formed but that is just my opinion. Big mess to clean up.

Thinking of you.

There are still many households and businesses without power. We're one of them. We are very appreciative of the efforts of all the public utilities companies who are working around the clock to restore services as quickly as possible. We appreciate all the kind messages and offers of help and support for us, personally, our community in San Pedro and those affected across Belize. For us, it has just meant some inconvenience without water or power. Others have lost everything. Our thoughts are with them and we hope everyone who loves Belize will do their best to assist in any way they can.
