I am seriously considering moving to Belize before the end of the year.

I was hoping someone could tell me where I can find rental listings on a website (for 1 year term) in San Pedro or any other city near a Mosque ( Masjid ) or some sort of Muslim (Islam) community. I am looking for a 3 bedroom home with two bathrooms. Preferably in a quiet area. If anyone can tell me how the Muslim community is like, I heard the have a mosque in Belize city and in San Pedro. Is there a Muslim school also?

I run ecommerce websites and can earn my living from anywhere in the world. I think it is an excellent opportunity to enjoy beautiful weather and laid back environment in Belize.

I have 3 children under the age of 11 and a wife smile

I am born in Canada and I converted to Islam 10 years ago. I have never been to Belize but I have been to Cuba a few times and some other countries (visiting) in Europe and Asia.

Also is it true you can get permanent residency status in Belize if you stay for one year and there is zero corporate or personal taxes. Thanks advance for the help smile

Any advice or tips you can think of sharing please do.

Let me help you a little:

To apply for residency you must have been here for a year, during your application you can't leave the country for a year.
We have a business tax starting at 3% and up (depends of your type of business) calculated over the gross income, not the profit.
Income taxes vary from zero under US$ 200 per week to about 25% over US$ 500 per week.

Internet in Belize is not the best and some of the most expensive in the Caribbean (Google the subject).
When you rent here as a foreigner (even for a year), you have to pay hotel tax on your rental.

I have several good muslim friends here and we are all proud Belizeans.
In Belize, you are a Belizean first, then comes your religion.

Visit Belize first before you try to settle.
Hope that helps.

I think Business tax depends on how the company is incorporated, and whether the revenue is generated outside of Belize or not. Some companies can qualify for 0% corporate and 0% personal tax if your income is earned completely out of Belize. I hope that is accurate because that is what is says here: http://incorporatebelize.com/belize-ibc.php

Secondly, I'm not sure what you were implying when you said being a Belizean comes first and being a Muslim comes second. Sounds like an islamophobic thing to say, but maybe I'm wrong. As a true Muslim, God should always come first!

Hi Aleem,

I was merely trying to give you well meant advice on Belize as a Belizean. I apologize if it came over the wrong way. I prefer to leave that for what it is as I meant nothing else by it.

As to your other question, you are right, when you start an IBC you can apply not to pay Belize tax, but then you can't be a resident. When you have an IBC you have to prove foreign recidency when you form the company and every year when you update the IBC with the GOB and your bank (FATCA). When you are a resident or Belizean you only qualify for a Chapter 250 Company.

I am not an accountant, but this is what I know.
As I suggested, visit Belize first and get some professional advice when you are here.

it is unlikely that belize will convert to sharia law anytime soon if that is what you are looking for. My sense is that many of the moslems in San Pedro are Lebanese.
