Every year the ABC Pre-School invites the San Pedro Town Council to visit the children dressed up in their halloween costumes before they go trick or treating around the neighborhood. We were excited to visit them and treat them with fun halloween cupcakes. There were princesses, scary monsters and lots of super heroes to save the day!
Haunted House raises funds for island charities In an effort to raise funds for Raise Me Up, Wayo’s Beach Bar hosted their third annual Haunted House for two nights on Thursday, October 27th and Friday, October 28th. For an entry fee of $1 for children and $5 for adults, dozens gathered to experience the family-friendly haunted house. A group of volunteers transformed the Wayo’s palapa into haunted attraction by draping it with cobwebs, canvases and scary props, and even building a graveyard. In addition to the haunted house on Friday night, Wayo’s hosted their Halloween costume contest, where many children came out and showcased their best costumes. 50/50 raffles took place, and various prizes were given out to the costume winners. In the end, $2,357 was raised through admission sales and raffle tickets. Raise Me Up is a local organization dedicated to the betterment of Belize families in need, which oversees the San Pedro Food Bank, San Pedro Kids Club, Hope Haven Orphanage and Women’s Shelter, and the Literacy Program at the Holy Cross Anglican Primary School.
The 13th Annual SAGA Spooktacular: Fun, Music, Food, Games & Dogs Stuffed into Costumes Today was the second biggest event of the Halloween holiday season in San Pedro, Belize. Saturday night, adults partied until early morning at the huge Holiday Hotel Bash. Sunday – all day- dogs, kids and their parents dressed for the SAGA Humane Society’s annual fundraiser. A huge part of their budget for the coming year. And with 90 animals to feed and house right now, they need your help more than ever.
Yesterday I pulled up to Carlo and Ernie’s Bar and the party was hopping. An untouched pinata was hanging near the entrance…
I LOVE a pinata.
Here’s a look at the situation.
And later, the winner for Funniest Costume – the poop factory. Ruffles above won cutest as a princess butterfly.
Time to whack the pinata. Little girls bashing for candy is so fun.
Halloween Madness At the Holiday Hotel: Party of the Year Every year, the entire town (almost) dudes and dolls up for Halloween and heads to the HUGE red carpet event and late night party at the Holiday Hotel.
Ben of Truck Stop – I am still not convinced that this isn’t a real dog’s head.
And his wife Joanna’s!
I…have never done it! Never been. My last days of partying for Halloween looked something like this. (I mostly love these photos because my little brother – age 42 – has the best costumes.)
But here are some fabulous pictures that were taken while I was fast asleep. I partied last night by having pancakes for dinner.
These are borrowed from Dr. Sam – our awesome vet at SAGA Humane Society. She also writes a beautiful blog (the last post is heartbreaking – but man are we are so lucky to have her).
4 Fun Island Style Halloween Parties As always there was no shortage of Halloween parties this year – so many I lost count. I was prepared with a few costumes and a partner in crime to do 3 of the 4 parties with. Of course we knew loads of people at all of them, it was not always easy to recognize the person under the costume though.
First in line was Wayo’s Beach Bar annual haunted house which is always a big hit with the kids. My partner in crime took the night off so I found a great plus 3 option – Sandie, Emily and Madison. They picked me up in Sandie’s very fitting purple and black cart and off we went through the streets of San Pedro waving my big Jolly Roger pirate flag. Next came San Pedro Red Cross trivia night. Most people do not dress up for Halloween trivia night but I never pass up the opportunity. Little did I know my costume would end up being our team name the Bondage Ballerinas. By the time we got to the Holiday Hotel around 9:30 it had already felt like a full night but my second wind came fast as soon as we hit the party. The the street was packed with people watching the red carpet entries and soon the party was full of amazingly creative costumes. For a small island we take Halloween very seriously.
Another Halloween to remember at Holiday Hotel Another epic Halloween Party was held on Saturday, October 29th at the Holiday Hotel on Barrier Reef Drive. The anticipated annual celebration attracts people from different walks of life who bring out their best costumes to impress judges and get a chance to win some fabulous prizes. From the most creative, to the elegant, creepiest and spectacular, this year was another scary and crazy night to remember! Shortly after 9PM, a large crowd of onlookers gathered around the traditional orange carpet that extended for almost a block. One by one, attendees began making their way down the carpet to an audience that was amazed at each unique costume. From monsters, vampires, pirates, witches, unknown creatures, zombies, super heroes, villains, and even a group of cereal characters, the party got bigger and bigger as the hours passed. In keeping with current times, there was even a portrayal of U.S Presidential Candidates Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, along with a Miss Universe participant. The event was so irresistible that people from outside of planet Earth stopped by! Yes, the whole crew from Star Wars was present at the party.
Dogs Enjoy Halloween in San Pedro Too It's not only the humans who have a blast during Halloween in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. Saga Humane Society is responsible for putting up a fantastic fundraiser that is fun for the entire family, including their pets. Dogs are the favorite to play dress-up, but its not odd to see a cat or even a turtle in costume during Saga's annual event.
This year marked the 13th year that Saga Humane Society in San Pedro is celebrating Halloween for man's best friend. Prizes were given out to Most Creative, Funniest, Cutest, Scariest and Look-a-Like, among others, with businesess around the island supporting the event held at Carlo's and Ernie's Runway Bar & Grill.
Pets shine at Saga’s Spooktacular Halloween Party For a little over a decade, the Saga Humane Society in San Pedro Town has been bringing the spirit of Halloween via island pets. The 13th Halloween Spooktacular Party was held at Carlo and Ernie’s Runway Bar on Sunday, October 30th. The highlight of the event was the pets costume contest. One by one owners and pups lined up before five judges who were tasked with making the tough decision in selecting the winners: Tamara Sniffin from The San Pedro Sun, Rebecca Coutant from San Pedro Scoop, Dorian Nuñez from Ambergris Today, DVM Samantha English from Saga Humane Society, and Kevin Fletcher. All pets participating in the contest were adorable, and the costumes were certainly very creative and charming. After some time of doggie modelling on the stage the winners were announced. Taking the prize for the Cutest, was a puppy dressed as a butterfly. In the “Look-a-like” category the prize went to Maddy and Mellow, who were dressed as spiders. Mermaid and mer-dog Gitmo won for the Best Trick, and the Fun prize went to the piñata dog and master. The prize for the Funniest went the ‘Poop Factory’, followed by the Scariest “Dooley” dressed as a vampire-bat dog. The prize for the Original Design and most creative was a challenge for the judges, who awarded ‘Gladiator Dog’ Bella is an impressive gladiator coat-or-arms made from soda can top.
Halloween Movie Night at San Pedro Town Library While adults were gearing up to attend the biggest Halloween bash of the year, the San Pedro Town Public Library was hosting a Halloween-themed Movie Night on Saturday, October 29th. At 6:30PM, more than 30 children, accompanied by their parents flocked to the library to watch Monster House.
Besides watching the Halloween movie, Library Assistant Marlene Coral hosted a mini Halloween Costume Contest. The contest judged three categories of: Most Creative, Scariest, and Cutest. According to Coral, choosing a winner was the hardest part. “Many children came dressed up this year, and there were so many creative costumes to choose from. My team and I had to make hard decisions. Almost everyone who came with a costume left with a prize,” said Coral. Another Halloween has come and gone, and with it memories of spectacular costumes. From humans to pets, this year island residents and visitors went above and beyond in dressing up for this ghoulish holiday.
As always, San Pedro Town played host to the most fabulous Halloween parties in the country; from Wayo’s Beach bar’s Haunted House to Holiday Hotel’s Costume Party and even Saga Humane Society’s Spooktacular Party for pets.
Keeping the Halloween spirit going, Holiday Hotel held their legendary Costume Party on Saturday, October 29th. What an event this was! The costumes were just WOW! The anticipated event is one of biggest celebrations, attracting people from all over Belize and even internationally, who bring out their best masterpieces to impress. Of course we did not forget the island pets we love and adore.
On Sunday, October 30th, Saga Humane Society hosted their 13th annual Halloween Spooktacular Party at Carlo and Ernie’s Runway Bar. Pet lovers and pets alike came out in their most creative costumes. Cute little (and large) furballs dressed up as ghost, devils, super heroes and even fish – talk about cuteness overload!
