Not a lot of shade on the moon when it can see the sun. I was wondering where Harriette would park such a vehicle if it existed. Maybe on the roof? wink

Ambergris needs a mass transit system. Busses are too big to navigate in town. North and south would work. I remember as a boy going to Disney land and a small train of seated carts would drive past and transport you to the front gate. Same thing at the airports for baggage. I was amazed how they could intertwine around obstacles, that could work for the town proper. Just an idea.

Not to mention the charm and ambience . The Island has lost some of it's original charm, kill two birds with one stone.

Champion....Love this idea of the passenger carts....We have had a few people approach town council on the idea including a small group of investors we are involved with....Sadly we were told that the Taxi Association handles public transportation....At the time we were able to get the taxi association to offer complimentary transport for children in uniform....unfortunately that ended horrifically.....The idea for the carts; was the investor group would purchase the carts and passenger trailers, provide and build public bench stops with a thatch style cover (keeping the island charm R.B.) and run a route throughout the island.....Children in school uniform would not be charged, others could purchase a monthly pass and visitors could pay as they go (as little as $5 one way to town).....I still believe in the idea....Not sure how the Current Town Council feels about it......

Judyanne, The brief 2 wks. or so they had one it was great! We took it several times , a pretty ride in the moonlight and we thought the saftey factor was a huge plus as well. It was like someone patrolllinng the road on a regular basis. Judy

Some years ago the Island Ferry was founded (now we have the Coastal Xpress) and it succeeded although there were many opposing forces. The same individuals who founded Island Ferry began a service pretty much along the lines of what is suggested above. Tires were slashed, other things happened and the project was abandoned. It was a nice idea then and is a nice idea now, but if it doesn't have local roots, participation and support I doubt you will manage to succeed. if you are serious about the project lay the foundation well.
