Hi

We are heading down in May for our first visit. We are from Canada ( Home of the 50 cent dollar ) and I am trying to estimate what we will spend for food and drink on a daily basis. We would normaly have a light breakfast, burgers or fish for lunch with a couple of drinks and a nice dinner with a couple more drinks. I have checked out the menus on the web site ( Capricorn etc ) and we will try them. But they seem to be high. Not the average. Help ehh.

There is wide range of restaurants. If you go to the street vendors, places owned by locals on the backstreets (ie, not near the beach)or places where the locals eat (like Ruby's for breakfast, for instance), you could get by on about 70 Canadian per day, for two people. That's really watching the pennies. (I'm estimating what we spent and doubling the US dollars to make it Canadian)It's the nicer places, booze (other than local beer)and places on the beach which are more pricey and can run you much more than that.

Hello fellow Canuck,
If you're not totally set on Ambergris Caye, you might want to check out Caye Caulker. Prices for hotels, restaurants etc. are a fair bit cheaper. It doesn't have the same party atmosphere as San Pedro, but it is very peaceful and laid back, but there are enough bars and restaurants to keep you busy. Oh, and you'll find that you stop in the middle of the street and say "hey, you know what's missing - no traffic noise, 'cause the are NO cars"...Just thought you might want another option. Mary

The street vendors by the park are great!!! Papi's diner and Los Coco's are our favorites for great food that's unbelievably inexpensive. There are so many great places to eat that are really resonable. Anjonitos San Telmos comes to mind, the Chinese place
and many others. Check the board and print out some stuff to take with you. Have fun!!
