After a great trip to Ambergris Caye in 1999 (can't believe it's been that long), we've been planning to come back, but to do it by chartered sailboat. Well, we've finally got it together and will be on a TMM bareboat charter out of San Pedro in February of next year.

I'm sure I will have lots of questions before we make the trip, but the first one is to get recommendations for a 1-night stay both before and after the charter. Since we can rent TMM's condo at about $200/night and would otherwise need 2 rooms, to make it worthwhile, we are looking for something for under $100/night. Any suggestions? (We stayed at Ramon's in 1999, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but know their prices and don't think it makes sense for us this time around.)

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

We are going for the first time on Aug 16th. We will be staying at the 7 seas Resort for the first week, which we will use to check out other hotels on AC to stay at for the next ten days. I would be happy to let you know how it goes. Seven Seas Resort looks nice and it has a full kithchen. The prices are listed on their web site. Check out this web's lodging link.

there are many alternatives for accomodations in the SP area for 75$ that are fine.....coconuts or paradise hotel (not villas) and some that are very chap and acceptable lillies (45$) etc.
I saw that you are chartering from TMM. I have chartered in bze since 1978 and sailed extensively from the rio dulce to SP. which boat do you have?
are you interested in suggestions about the southern cays?
also, I assume that you are aware that the moorings is chartering out of placencia?

Hi Sailor Pat. We are sailing TMM's Tobago 35 named Smilin' Wide (so far, there will only be 3 of us). Since we are only sailing for a week, we probably won't make it to the southern cayes. However, if you could offer advice about the cayes south of Caye Caulker, I'd love to hear about them.

I sailed smilin wide to the rio dulce last summer. she was in good condition.cay caulker is only an hour and some change away.when you anchor in the bight on the west side take care to hook into a sandy area preferably on the north (left side of the cut).
3 days is not enough time to go south but st george are nice venues caulker.
if you wish to email (lambada41@hotmail.com) me i can tell you a great deal about the area...when are you going?

You may want to pick up a copy of this months Cruising World Magizine. It has an article about sailing in Belize and chartering from TMM. It may give you some ideas. You may also get the article from cruisingworld.com web site. Have fun.

Thanks for that link. I just sent it to our friends who have been to BZ with us the last five trips, and we have sailed with them all over the western hemi, but never BZ.
