I'm one of a group of guys in our 20's that are thinking about spending some time on Ambergris Caye the 2nd week of September. Can anyone tell me what the nightlife will be like at this time of year? It seems there could be a dropoff as a lot of students are back in school, but we're hoping that there will still be a bunch of young singles to hang out with.
In searching the messages for this info I came across quite a few references to casinos on Ambergris Caye. What are they like? i.e. type of gambling, hours, free drinks while gambling etc...
Thanks.

LOL Sorry Kuru...not laughing at you...just laughing at the fact that THE (only 1) casino on Ambergris Caye is nothing like what you probably imagine it. There are a few black jack tables....and I mean a few, and about 10 slot machines. No neon lights and free drinks...LOL
The nightlife on this island is the same year round. Options are limited, but here is a list.
1)You got Fido's Restaurant and Bar. Barefoot Skinny playing on Fridays and Mondays. A good show! Buy the CD's...they're great and will bring back your island memories after you get back home.
2) Big Daddy's on the beach nextdoor to Fido's. Young crowd...mostly local but some tourists. Disco type atmosphere....black lights and all. Just watch and listen for any rumblings of a fight fixing to break out and leave the premises immediately....LOL
3) Jaguars on Front St. by the park. Can't miss it....the doorway is a big Jaguar head. You enter through the mouth and after a night of drinking you come out through the tail....LOL...just kidding! Another local disco....same thing.
4)Barefoot Iguanas. Cool, elaborate disco. Two stories inside. Got events like mud wrestling (females) and sometimes wet T-shirt contests. I would say this is a good place for guys. Watch for falling bottles from the second floor and don't go barefoot due to the remaining glass fragments....LOL
5)Canucks Bar (what used to be and is still referred to as The Playador) Good dance music. Right on the beach, live entertainment some nights...not sure...just ask around.
6)And last but not least and certainly not to be missed....The Chicken Drop at the Pier Lounge. No where else on Earth will you see people bet on where a chicken will poop....LOL Kinda like bingo or a lottery, only your fate rests on the chicken. To top it all off...if you win...you get the honor of wiping the poop up with a paper towel...LOL Wooohooo! This event takes place on Wednesday nights. Be there around 6pm to place your bets and swig down a few Belikins before the games begin. Don't forget your camera...it's a Kodak moment...LOL
Hope I didn't leave anybody out.
Cheers!

Thanks for the info, especially helps because I was about to let everyone know there was a casino on the island. Although, I do have a couple friends that would probably be betting on that chicken.
Still curious about the nightlife. More specifically, will there be plenty of female tourists to hang out with? I have no idea how big these bars are, so I'm hoping there will be a lot of people. Any estimates? I spent some time down in Placencia a fews back and I really liked it, but it did lack the nightlife. We'll be doing a little partying in Cancun(not my favorite) beforehand, but still don't want to be hanging out with only guys or just 3 girls in a bar of 50 people.

Kuru, I was there a couple of weeks ago and there were Europeans still on vacation. I would think that by the time you get there they will all be back in school. This is the slow/hurricane season. When I was there it wasn't exactly jumpin with single women. I'm a bit older than you, but I'm still single. San Pedro is A LOT more laid back than Cancun (I've spent several vacations in Cancun). You certainly will be able to talk to the local women, but I wouldn't be expecting much if you're looking for single tourists. Party it up in Cancun and just go with the flow (not expecting much) when you get to Belize.

September is a slow month. No guarantees. Have fun and be safe! (not your mother...but use protection...some souveniers you don't want) LOL

Sept is the slowest month with many hotels & places closed. BUT it is also the month of the national holidays so there is a lot going on as far as parades & "jump ups" (dances, celebrations). If you are flexible and open to ideas you will find a lot to do. Belize celebrates carnival in Sept. Many events will be on the mainland or in Belize City but you can certainly go over there for a day or 2 to check out the action. When the locals party, it gets wild and goes all night with no shortage of single females. But it is not what you would be expecting. If you are adventurous and ask the locals, you will find the best party you ever had!

Wouldn't you add the palapa bar on the north end above the cut. I was looking forward to that.

Kuru,
My husband and I (in our 20's) went to AC last September for our 1st anniversary. Needless to say, nightlife was almost non existant. Barefoot Iguana's, Jaguar's, etc. were pretty much just where a few locals hang out and only on like Friday and Saturday nights. If you are looking for great nightlife, I would definitely stick with Mexico. Belize is all about relaxing and getting away from everything.

Was there this past June\July and heard a lot of business owners complaining of things being very slow this year. Heard some talk of some eating places closing for Sept/Oct.! Might be a good idea to do some emailing to check on places you are interested in.I'm sure the larger places for entertainment will stay open, but midnite is typical closing time for most of them. Doesn't cost much to ask.....Richard Oh yeah, there are 2 gambling places on AC! The newer is smaller but in the same part of town if i remember right.
