We are planning a trip to Ambergris Caye in Feb. and have been wondering how receptive the property owners are concerning usage of their facilities by people other than their guests. Example: Using the artificial reef that Caribbean Villas has added to their beach. I've not seen this subject mentioned and would appreciate comments.
When I lived in San Pedro I used to walk down to the Ramon's Village dock and swim/snorkel their artificial reef. No problems, was never asked to leave. Its probably safe to assume that you can swim or snorkel off almost anyone's pier, but don't expect to get into the pools, unless you're dating the night security guard.
We stayed at Caribbean Villas in April. During our ten days we saw many people using the pier but we saw very few using the small artifical reef to swim in and those we saw were CV guests. I do not believe that CV would have a problem with it, though, and actually I believe Belizean law says that no pier, beach or ocean area is truly private property.
