There is good news for air travellers tonight, as it has been confirmed that on November twenty-first, Air Jamaica will commence scheduled flights to Belize. The four-times-per-week service, utilizing Airbus 320 jets, will fly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Details of the arrival and departure times have not been released, but the route through Air Jamaica's Montego Bay hub should allow passengers the option to make connections to other Caribbean destinations as well as numerous cities in North America and Europe. Those same routes should work in reverse, providing European and North American tourists greater access to Belize, as well as allowing Caribbean citizens, many of whom cannot obtain transit visas through the U.S.A., the chance to visit the jewel.

In related news, it was announced today by Continental Airlines that it will be initiating a weekly flight to Belize City from its New York hub at Newark Liberty Airport. Beginning December fourteenth, that flight will leave every Saturday, departing Newark at 9:15 a.m. and arriving in Belize City at 12:40 in the afternoon. The flight will continue on to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, departing Belize City at 1:35 and eventually wind up in Newark at 8:35 at night. Continental already operates daily service to Belize out of its Houston hub.

Viewers should note that on November ninth another carrier, U.S. Air, will commence non-stop service between Belize City and Charlotte, North Carolina. Those flights, like Air Jamaica's, will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Marty!!
Since this will be some new healthy competition, does this mean that the cost of flights to Belize may go down for the other airlines???? That would be a plus!!! Thanks for the info!

We have already booked on Air Jamica for New Years Eve flight goes to Jamica and with a plane change to Belize. Wasn't any cheeper but all we could get in the way of a flight on that date. Hope they will give Continental, American and Taca some needed competition. :p :p :p

Now if only Delta could get their request cleared to fly there.. it would make it MUCH easier for those of us from Atlanta as we all have our Frequent Flier miles with Delta.

I don't think Delta is ever going to add Belize. Delta is in more of a pull-back than an expansion mode. And Delta stock has tanked.

However, if given regulatory approval, Delta and Continental are soon going to be working together with code shares and such, and their frequent flyer programs will be set up so that you can earn and redeem Delta FF miles on CO, and vice versa. So maybe I can use my 400,000 DL miles to fly to Belize on CO.

Yes, someone has got to start flying from Atlanta. I wouldn't doubt that the Newark flight could stop here, or the Charlotte flight....since when you die, you have to go through Atlanta.....

I see that USAir is offering a fare from Atlanta that is cheaper than the fare from Charlotte. You fly from Atlanta to Charlotte and then non-stop to BZE, but you pay less. This kind of irrational pricing, based on computerize yield management systems that focus on price instead of value, is one reason the U.S. airlines are losing their shirts.
