Does anyone have any info regarding adopting children in BZ??? Not to bring to the states, but if you're going to be a resident in BZ?? Are there orphanages there, if so, where and how many? Is it expensive and a bunch of BS like here in the states, or is the process easier and shorter? C

I read something about that a while ago, not here, so I will do a search. Let me see if I can find it again and see if it was totally on the up.

Thanks M-A.
I had sent some of that to their email address. I hope they don't mind. But, this is good for others to see too.

Rick,
I got some info for my step sister in the states.
Human Services Dept. would need the following.
1) Home Study done by state Social Dept.
2) Medical report of husband and wife
3) Police background check
4) Copy marriage license
4) Copy of License for individual who performed home study.

This was for adoption and removal of the child to the US. The procedure is pretty much the same for domestic adoption.....plenty of hoops and
time consuming.

For more info contact Human Services Dept. in Belize City 501-227-7451

Marlas House of Hope in Belmopan, contact Pat Farley 501-822-2689

This may get you in the right direction.

HI Rick and Cheri,
I know someone on the Island that seriously looked into this last year. She was told that in-country adoption was pretty easy, and relatively inexpensive.
However, when I called a Stateside attorney for her to get info about bringing the child into the States -at any point- visit or move, it got very complicated, very grey, and very expensive.

I would think that adoption would be welcome, to help some of these children, and I understand there are many.....

She was told that private adoption was the easiest route. However, that was the one that the US has the most problems with....

This is the sweetest post I have seen.
Bless you much.
Do not let paperwork, and jumping through hoops stop you from giving children a good warm loving home, with education. You can make a difference for yourselves and children.

I do know that they allow people (who have been screened-- a basic interview), take a child for a holiday, weekend, etc..... so even if you have no interest in full time, it's still a great way to make a child's holiday special. Maybe we could send down some goodie bags, with some $$.

THANKS ALL!!! Only interested in adopting AFTER we move permanently, not to bring to the states. The child would grow up in BZ, we can bring him/her to the states for visits after a time. Not truly wanting a newborn either....a child of between 3-6 years old, but not limited to that age. AND Chloe-LOL....i have never been stopped by anything in my life, not if i set my mind to it. And DEFINITELY not by any paperwork etc....i am an old, strong (and at times a bit stubborn) soul....would love to meet you some day on AC!!!! And Mexicana and NYGal cool too!!! Ya'll seem like my kind of women!!!! P.S...an old soul, not an old woman!!! LOL........C
