It is my understanding my friends on the island that Ivo has opened another internet cafe, is this true? If so, does anyone know what the business is called and its email address? Thanks.

I was in San Pedro last September. Ivo was just finishing up the place while I was there. He has a satellite connection to the internet...much faster than 56K modems.

He was up and running about 3 days before I left and once he opened I was in there using the computers. Very nice place.

I've known Ivo for a few years, ever since he was tending bar at Fidos. He is a great person. Check out his internet place...I think you'll likel it.

Don't all three internet shops in San Pedro have Sattelite internet?

StarBand remains working in Belize but the newer model DiRECWAY 6000 will now provide a better service. The DW6000 system is now $2000 US installed, and cost is $59/month + tax.

For questions regarding the Direcway, Starband, or SkyBlue products please visit the forums at www.dbstvforum.com and click on "Internet Via Satellite outside USA"

Mel; I've got Direcway....that or Starband are OK if you don't have any other high speed Internet. Now that BTL has DSL on the island I have relegated the satellite to a backup role at Island Internet. The BTL DSL is wonderful. I know....who would have thought that "wonderful" and "BTL" would appear in the same sentence?

I have found Direcway to be niggly and unreliable. For home use it's fine because one doesn't mind if it drops out for a few minutes. But, an impatient paying customer in an Internet bar DOES mind.

I see no reason to pony up another few thousand dollars for a Direcway upgrade to my existing system which is less than 1 year old. I think Direcway should be offering the upgrades (assuming they work properly) at cost and that people like you, Mel, should be supporting your existing customers likewise.

When I had Starband (which lasted 1 year before the modem blew up) I found the lag times between pages to be quite long. The fastest BTL DSL gives quick browsing, decently fast downloads and MUCH faster than satellite uploads. Yes, it costs quite a bit more than Satellite per month, but I doubt that over a 2 year period there will be ANY difference in price between satellite and DSL when one considers that I have had to pay over 5,000US in satellite equipment over that period.

I only hope that BTL can keep their DSL reliable.

I read somewhere that I sould bring a CD so that I can go to an Internet Cafe and burn my pictures from my digital camera to a CD. Do they have the software that is needed to downoload these pictures? Thanks so much!

Chris,

We have several Internet Cafe's running on DW at various places in Sinaloa, Mexico and many other locations in Mexico. Making them work well takes a little extra effort and knowledge. I would be glad to introduce you up to those who know how to do this and make your DW system work efficiently for a 20-seat Internet Cafe, while running 1 Voice line with excellent quality.

DW is not unreliable & working properly is the responsibility of the owner, and keeping it working is dependent on how/if it was installed properly in the first place.

We support each and every customer we have ever sold.

Few Thousand Dollars for what? Am really curious now whom you have been working with.
