Just wondering if you need to get any shots before coming to Ambergris Caye? We're probably not going to the jungle, just laying on the beach. Any info would greatly be appreciated! 2 more weeks laugh

From what I have read, you need a lot of shots for AC. Start off with a few shots of Stoli, and then maybe the local rum....This should cure just about any pain you may endure....

Ah, Mr Tarpon is correct. The only shots needed for AC are those that you ingest orally. In fact the more shots you take, the more you will be "protected".

You could go to the Maruba Resort on a tour and get a shot of Viper or Scorpion Rum.

That should cure everything! laugh

One Barrel and Sprite.....It doesn't get any better than that!

Everyone should have Hep A nowadays even at home, and there is the Hep A&B cocktail available.

I agree with Seashell. EVERYONE should have hep shots regardless of whether they are traveling to AC. If you already have, nothing else is needed.

I'd add that you should be up to date on your tetanus. It's not uncommon to step on a nail or something similar when on the beach or boat. I believe tet shots are good for 10 years.

I guess I can definately agree with Lan on the tetnus shot, However the 10 year theory is old....Now they recommend at least 5 years. Good thing tho on San Pedro they have a great clinic across from Maya Air that you can get a tetnus shot if needed. On my trip over the holidays I went cave tubing and slipped in the mud and cut my leg on a piece of limestone. Of course God only knows what was in the River water there and it was deep enough that I "should" have gotton stitches but being the stubborn person I am I didn't get them but did finally agree with the Doc at the clinic (which I was tricked into going to) eek that I should get an updated tetnus. So it's not a requirement for entry into Belize, rest assured that if you do need it, it's readily available in San Pedro. PS>>>>It was also a very reasonable cost...The Dr. cleaned the wound out very well, bandaged it, gave me a tetnus shot and 5 days of antibiotic and the total cost was only 31$ US.

My local Health dept still only recommends a TD every 10 years, however if an accident does occur and it has been 7 or more they do tell you to get another one. Its kinda funny how some people take EVERY precaution (like flu shots) and still get the flu or whatever. While others avoid any sort of prevention and seem to get nothing!! Life just happens sometimes and you can't always prevent it! SO HAVE FUN....BELIZE IT!! laugh

Regardless, don't wait. Get the tetanus shot at home. I'd completely forgotten about the importance of that particular shot, having had it already a couple of years ago (my second). It is a most particularly important shot in Belize. It is so easy to accidentally cut/hurt yourself. (I still have a bad bruise on my leg from 3 weeks ago)

Actually, I will give you an example of how easy it is to hurt yourself and I will tell this story of when I was in Cancun and not even in San Pedro. We were staying at a brand new resort. It had only been open a week or two. They were still building the beach (bringing in the sand) and so we were walking along and I decided to walk in a trench. I stumbled on a small piece of coral and took a huge hunk out of the botttom of my foot. We had only been there for a couple of hours and I was damaged for the rest of the trip. It is hard to say how much worse it would have been, had I not had a tetanus shot.
