Getting in later in the day so I'll have a night in Belize City before going to AC. Any recommended Belize City hotels clean & safe in the $40 - $25 / night price range?

Take a jump over to the "About other parts of Belize" and you will find plenty of info about Belize City Hotels...I have stayed at Villa Boscardi several times and really like it there..But last year there was no room ...so Franco sent me to Diamond Motel 4 1/2mile Northern Highway..Its very plain, but clean and quite new. The rates were quite reasonable. The hosts were most accomodating..The down side is that its in the middle of nowhere and its a cab ride into town. There are several others..Belize City is finally getting a good number of good guest houses..

I stayed at the Biltmore this last trip and it was looking really good! $85/nt. Great live music on Thurs - Sat too. I also recommend Colton House (about $65/nt) & The Great House (about $110/nt). I have heard good things about Hotel Mopan & Seaside Guest House (more in your price range) but have not seen the rooms myself.

Grant Residence is very nice, great hosts, on the waterfront, short walk to town and casino; little higher than your price range, but worth it if you decide to spend more; gspartners@btl.net. Happy trip!

Four very spacious and extremely comfortable bed and breakfast rooms in an impressively-maintained guest house on the sea front just north of the city centre. Each room has a different theme, e.g. Belizean Room, Indian Room and so on. TV, a well-stocked bookshelf and an immaculate private bathroom. All have sea views and two have a private balcony; smoking is allowed in the rooms. Air-conditioning is being installed but the fans and sea breezes keep the place cool. The owners, Ward and PJ Grant, are extremely helpful and informative and also offer massage and manicure service. PJ likes to cook and when she does guests are in for a treat. I'd echo all the above comments. Certainly places like Villa Boscardi, Colton House (which is for sale now - Alan and Ondina are "retiring" in Corozal area, but they have a manager at Colton Hosue), The Great House and Grant Residence are excellent. But they're a little above what you want to pay.

In your price range, I'd probably say Hotel Mopan. Not fancy, but it attracts some interesting travelers.
