Lobster season (when you can eat lobster, fresh or otherwise) starts June 15th. There is NO closed season where it is permitted to eat frozen lobster but not fresh, it's important to understand that closed season from February 15th-June 15th means NO LOBSTER EATING or stocking of lobster of any kind! This is to stop "stockpiling" which would erode the lobster population. Also it eliminates the temptation to buy lobster during the off season and say that it was caught during the open season...
There is no season for stone crab, its available year-round.

Actually, there is a new proposal this year that allows restaurants to place an order and pay in advance to the co-op for the amount of lobster they wish to use in the off season. They then get the lobster as needed from the co-op up to the amount they requested. The co-op is charging, what many feel, is an unreasonable price for the lobster, so I am not sure how many restaurants will use the option.

but if it's only a "proposal" - how can they even be offering a price?

The "proposed price" is $33 Belize per pound. I have not talked to anyone as yet who is doing it. I would think there might be some restaurants who will, but those I have talked to, about 8 or 10, feel the price is too high.

So, is the "proposal" to change the law, or is it already changed? If the law is not changed, then the "proposed" price is irrelevant ( one would naturally assume) confused

The law has been modified based on the proposal presented by the Belize Tourist Board. Bottom line is, restaurants can serve lobster during the off season if they order and purchase it in advance from the co-ops. As I stated earlier, it remains to be seen how many will take advantage the change.

Thanks, by, for clarifying.....$33BZ wholesale does seem a bit stiff.
