We will be coming to AC for the first time in April (I am SO impatient! cool ). One of my family has allergies to Wheat and dairy products. Will that be a problem? Will it prevent him from trying the food from sidewalk vendors? I plan to contact the tour guides for day trips that supply lunch, but are there other things I should do ahead of time? Thanks for your advice.

Many of the food vendors items will be tortilla oriented. You can probably substitute corn for flour ones. And ask for no cheese. Get ready for lots of rice & beans & seafood.

Hi! You're going to have a wonderful time. There is plenty to eat there, but I would avoid the vendors. If you are looking for economical places, try Ambergris Delights and Mickeys, they are owned by the people who work there, and will listen to you. Also, I am quite fond of the little palapa at my hotel, the Paradise Resort Hotel, just north of the cemetary. Only opened for breakfast and lunch, but they will work with you. Jambel Jerk will work with you, too. Lots of other great places, just call first, and ask around. These are the most cooperative folks. Trust me, they'll work with you. Problem with the vendors is you may have a bit of a language problem, and not get your needs across to them. Have a great time.

You can certainly get what you want at the Jambal Jerk pit, and the food is great. Also, to avoid those particular things, there is the Jade Garden. I'm sure the fancier places like Capricorn, Rendezvous, and Mambo will be glad to accomodate you, too. Call ahead.
