Do most of the restaurants accept credit cards? We want to avoid the need to carry a lot of cash if possible. Also, is there an ATM on AC?

Thanks!

Cash or traveller's checks are the best I think. We've used both with no hassels, but not every place takes foreign credit cards.

Although this practice is getting less popular, many places that accept credit cards also charge a surcharge to change the currency or something. It's less expensive to use traveler's checks. And they can be replaced if lost or stolen...... :p

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS MONEY VIA OUR ATMS. VISA IS THE BEST CARD, ACCEPTED MORE WIDELY THAN OTHERS, WHETHER THE VISA IS ISSUED BY US, FRENCH, BELIZEAN OR FIJIAN BANK, IT'S ALL THE SAME. NOT EVERY BIZ ADDS A SURCHARGE (THE BANKS HERE CHARGE US ABOUT 3% TO PROCESS THE CARD ON EACH CHARGE), BUT I'LL BET EACH ONE OF YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANIES ADDS A FOREIGH EXCHANGE SURCHARGE TO THE FINAL CHARGES. WE NEVER ADD A SURCHARGE, WE CONSIDER IT COST OF DOING BIZ. BUT MANY OF MY CLIENTS EMAIL TO COMPLAIN ABOUT CHARGES, ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WAS THEIR CARD FINANCIAL INSTITUTION THAT LEVIED CHARGES.

We got back from San Pedro about a month ago and ran up about 1900 dollars Cdn. on our Visa with restaurants and Hotel, and not one surcharge. We also cashed travelers cheques at the money exchange way north on Front St. and got a 10 % premium. They also gave us cash on our Visa and it went through as a purchase, so no interest for 20 or so days.
Have a good time and enjoy. laugh
