Back in December 2001, I posted my experience at Coconuts Caribbean Hotel. I recently returned from my third stay. A lot has changed since my first visit so I feel compelled to post an update for those who may be interested.
Deona, Jasmine & others - front desk
(very sweet and helpful)
Shelby & Marlon - bartenders/tour guides
(great addition to the bar)
STILL THERE AND BETTER THAN EVER
Ada and Margie ("Bar Tender Ladies")
Free Continental Breakfast
Room tax was included in room price ($60US low season for single room tax included)
Fee for bicycles (hourly charge I believe)
Michael's Arch Angel Restaurant offers breakfast at reasonable prices
Room and service tax is 10% and added to room rates ($100US low season single room plus tax)
Update: As I was leaving AC, new rates were being established which are not reflected in their web site. I believe that new rates were determined for low season leaving current rate for high season and 25% more for Holiday season.
4 more rooms and 2 suites (third floor was added which also includes owners quarters)
New furniture, telephones and cable television in every room
Above ground pool
Takes up the majority of the area between the hotel and old bar and has cement stools for enjoying cool libations without leaving the water
Large Bar named "Lucifer's Lounge"
(old bar now stands as support for second story walk way to 3rd story suites)
Has live music many nights and Sunday afternoons
Has "theme nights": Beer drinking contest, kareoke, body shot night, etc.
Update: Rumor also has it (unconfirmed source) that there will be a special photo shoot "Wrap Party" for the magazine "Mystique" in June.
THEN AND NOW:
The Barge is still a great source of entertainment
Coconut's "Lucifer's Lounge" is a great party place, just about any time.
Coconuts Caribbean Hotel is not the quiet laid back place it once used to be. If you want that atmosphere, you need to stay some place like Mata Rocks.
