My fiance and I are getting married and have heard that the Paradise Hotel would be an inexpensive, nice place to stay on our honeymoon. Is this true? Are there any negatives to staying here in October 2003?

Michelle, how inexpensive are we talking? Personally, I think there are places that you would enjoy more for about the same amount of money. What are you looking for besides just inexpensive?

Um, not to mention that while it is unlikely that there will be a hurricane, regardless you are planning your trip during hurricane season.

We want somewhere that we can relax, that's a bit seclusive, but not TOO MUCH out of the way. We want to get into town easily and do some water activies. We also would like nice amenities. . . We don't want cheap surroundings - We're willing to spend a bit more for nicer surroundings. Does Paradise Hotel have poor amenities?

I don't think it is what you are looking for.

Why not look at a place like Caribbean Villas?

We stayed next door to the Paradise Resort Hotel when we were there last month. We were at the Paradise Villas, a nice condo type facility, and while they were okay, they were just basicly efficency appartments.

The Paradise Resort Hotel looks really cool with their grass thatched cabanas and beautiful grounds. I think it would be pretty romantic for a honeymoon!

I had seen alot of debate about the hotel on the board so I took a few minutes to see just what they had to offer. I asked to look in the cabana closest to the beach and the water.

What I found:

Very Clean and nice looking wood furnishings.

Grass thatched roofs on the cabanas. A couple of these were facing the ocean, all faced the beach.

Some hotel type units further back (I think they may have had kitchenettes).

A beutiful garden / sunning area with lots of chairs.

No pool (but we only got in the pool a couple of times where we stayed).

Hammokcs on most porches.

Fairly secluded but still very close to the restaurants and bars.

Some of the rooms have AC, but I don't think the cabanas have AC - they have ceiling fans.

The windows looked like wooden slats that open (not sure if they had screens).

A cool looking open bar/deli next to the beach open during the day.

Beach has a sea wall as does most of AC in this area (not much swimming unless you go out on the pier, which some folks do).

I didn't see any TVs.

Pier with dive shop right in front.

The cabanas look really cool, but I need AC most of the year in the tropics. I could probably do them in the cooler months.

We thought that if we went back for 3-5 days, these would do nicely. If I stayed longer, I would need more creature comforts than they offer.

Congratulations, I know you will enjoy AC no matter where you stay.
