The San Pedro SeaHawks entertained Valley Pride in a pre season friendly on Sunday afternoon and ran out convincing 4 –1 winners. The game had been arranged as recompense after the Pomona side had decided not travel to San Pedro for the second match of the Prime Ministers Cup second round due to getting walloped 5-1 in their home game.
As in that first game Valley Pride scored first but were once again outclassed in the end, although this was a closer game than the first with Valley Pride doing much better, especially in the first half. Alex Jones opened the scoring after 17 mins when put through on goal and just beat the San Pedro keeper Shabba, to the ball to poke it past him and in. San Pedro lived dangerously at times and more than once could have gone further behind as the new look SeaHawks with six changes from last weeks final looked to gel as a team.
The SeaHawks took the sail out of Valley Prides sails though just before halftime, when first Sanjay Pitts took a through ball down on his chest and volleyed it in to level and then substitute Henry Sagastume's cross was cleverly headed back by Ashton Lewis to Landy Pinelo who crashed a spectacular volley past the keeper from the edge of the D for a 2-1 halftime lead.
Seven minutes into the second half and Sanjay Pitts had his second goal after the keeper dropped the ball at his feet from a Jarbi Alvarez flicked on corner, to effectively end the resistance from Valley Pride. This prompted the SeaHawks to introduce and blood some youngsters in Ellison Chavez and Gilberto Caliz Jr. Both played well with Caliz in defense and Chavez up front. Chavez almost scored in a sensational start to his SeaHawks career after rattling the post with a right-footed stinging drive. Sanjay Pitts completed his hat trick, and the scoring, with five minutes left with a rare right footed shot after beating a defender in the box.
This weekend sees the SeaHawks take a well deserved break but they will then return to action in a great match the following weekend as part of the Birthday celebrations of the Dia de San Pedro festivities, when they entertain the current Champions Sagitun here in San Pedro on the Sunday.
