I just came back from my trip to San Pedro and wanted to big up UNITY TOURS! I have been visiting Belize for 11 years and I was very impressed with the "Rubio Brothers". Although they have only had their boat just under 1 year they are doing a great job! I went on a couple different trips with Stephen, Brian, Alex and the crew and they are alot of fun.
We went on a full day trip($50 US each), they picked us up at the hotel dock, we sailed out to Hol Chan and snorkelled. There were some people in the group who weren't strong swimmers and the crew were very kind and took time with them. We went to Caye Caulker for lunch and then sailed back out to Shark Ray Alley and then home. They had non-stop beer and rum punch so that made the day great too! smile The sunset sail($25 US each) was very beautiful - especially with some great Bob Marley tunes on the stereo!
Just wanted to share this with you and show support to an up and coming business in San Pedro!

my husband & I went on their sunset sail last year & were some of their first few customers...their service was excellent & they made it a great time for us...it was our 20th anniv & my bday & since it was in July, it was rather slow & we were the only people on the trip...usually you need a min of 4 per trip...so it was very romantic w/just the 2 of us, but also lots of fun w/the Rubio brothers

we're headed back next week & hope to take another of their trips!

As you can see, each of us have our favorites; from places to stay to tour operators. If you can sort through the unnecessary stuff there is a lot of information here. There are pros and cons to everything, just like in your hometown. It might be helpful if there were a questionnaire to fill out asking questions such as, do you want to be in the middle of the activity, on the edge or secluded? Are you looking to party of sack out in a hammock? Things like that.

My apartment is smack dab in the middle of town. I can live on one square block. I like that. However, the Lions Club is across the street and every Saturday night they play (I'll leave out my opinion of the quality) music until well after midnight. Fido's is in the next block and several nights a week their music drifts up to my verandah. For people who like to party it is easy to stagger home if you are close by the party place. The other thing to know is that the party is at different places different nights. So, while Paradise Villas and Blue Tang (I love them both) are considered on the edge of town and relatively quiet, Wet Willy's has ladies night on Wednesday's and I've heard they go until the wee hours of the morning and can be very loud. I also heard the Jerry Jeff Walker plays there occasionally. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? confused

By the same token, since this board protects identity, some folks are tooting their own horn. I see no problem with that, if they identify themselves as such. I promote Lily's Restaurant because I love the setting, the people who run it and those who work there. Besides, they let me hang out there. I dive with Hustler's because they have a great safety record and take good care of my stuff.

I am half moved to San Pedro and when people ask me “Why Belize?” I always say, “The people.”
By that I mean the mix of people who live and work there and the kinds of tourists that are attracted to the place and come back time after time – or just never leave!
I wish I were there now, but I am in northern California, selling my house so I can pack up and move to San Pedro full time.

BTW –when I am in San Pedro I do not have the time or the money to be reading and posting here. I enjoy and use this board when I am away as a way to stay connected.

I hope you will love your stay as much as I have loved all 8 of mine.

Scubalady, would love to hear your plans. I love Belize for some of the same reasons you do and could see living there. Have been 3 times in last 19 months. If you don't mind telling, I would enjoy the story.

Harriette-Thanks for your message and I love Belize for all the same reasons! The people are so REAL and genuine. (I know there are jerks in every part of the world but they are great for the most part! smile )
Just wanted respond to your comment about "people tooting their own horn" - and that is not what I was doing. As I said I have been visiting Belize for 11 years and I have many friends in many different business's. Unity Tours really showed me a good time and I feel since they are new they deserve a little bigging up - don't you? They work hard just like everyone else!
I am also moving to Belize permanently in the next 4 months so happy moving from one soon to be "island girl" to another! smile
