hey cheri....just got back from visiting a few dollar stores here in louisiana....i was able to pick up several items on conchita's list...i have also been talking to friends of mine, and hoping to get more....for $58.00 i was able to get:

a) 12 8pks of crayons
b) 12 rulers
c) 36 pencils
d) 5pks of 150 sheets of notebook paper
e) 5 composition books
f) 15 pocketed folders
g) 5 book bags/backpacks

for such a small amount...if everyone here in the states that are planning a vacation to belize, it would be really kool, if they could just stop by their local dollar store, and spend a few bucks, it could help make san pedro even more magical....

kerry....

I also have been shopping for Conchita's supplies. Most of my co-workers have been more than happy to donate a dollar or two so it's made it easier for me to shop. I have a boxes of pencils, pens, erasers, several rulers, glue sticks, tablets of paper, notebook refill paper, markers.... etc, etc! I would have brought more paper and composition books, but boy-- paper is heavy! Target is having excellent sales right now, better than the dollar stores.
Question: I have a small rolling case packed with supplies. Am I going to have any problems with customs or tariffs...???? What do I declare?
Thank you everyone for your terrific suggestions. I look forward to meeting Conchita Saturday. smile

Angelfish, I belive (unless new rulings have been made) books and educational materials carry no duty or fees. You should have no problem mon.

Angelfish, the airlines will allow you 50 lbs. per checked bag (you get 2 free) and 40 lbs. per carry on although I never had anyone want to weight my carry on. We carried down 65 lbs. of glass in a hard case golf bag and 40 lbs. of tools, last trip with no problem. The airlines have since lowered the weight to the 50 lbs. School supplies will not raise red flags or tariffs. It is fun giving, isn't it.

Kerry, I did get your e-mail. I wish I still worked for a vet! I'm going to work on my vet here and several others, plus some hospital supply people I know-- I'm sure I can come up with some things. Unfortunately, the idea that I could help came pretty late. School supplies-- easy. Vet stuff-- it'll take longer. Maybe it'll be an excuse to come back!
Conchita-- can't wait to meet you!
