My husband & I love the Islands and esp enjoy the not-so-crowded, laid back places so we are very excited about visiting AC. We live in Charlotte NC and US Air offers some great deals to Belize, so we just booked one (staying at Banana Beach)
Wondering about taxi service (land & water?)
Was a bit concerned to read a post about cruise
people wandering around...do cruise ships stop over? If so, how close to Banana Beach? Really looking forward to exploring the Island! Any helpful info would be appreciated!!!!!!!

Not a big deal in San Pedro. They are usually out snorkeling and a few hit the few shops on the island but it isn't a big deal. The majority get dumped at the tourist village in Belize City (Talk about a sterilized slice o life)

Enjoy and as they say " no worries" . Do yourself a favor and try Antojitos San Telmos restaurant just down the road from Banana Beach for some cheap hearty local food or the bar and bar b que at Crazy Canucks just a short stroll away too. There is a Belizean version of 7-11 right across the street from Banana beach for sodas, crackers, snacks etc too and a good little chinese take out place as well.

Taxis into town are way cheap. If you can ask around for Edgar. He is a very friendly and prompt cab driver. He'll give you his cell # and you can give him a call when you need him. Also, town isn't too far of a walk away and is a rather pleasant stroll along the beach.

You picked the right spot for laid back and not-so-crowded! We'll be on AC Aug. 26 0 Sept. 1 and won't be staying too far away from y'all (Mata Rocks). Maybe we'll run into each other! The taxis (golf carts) are very cheap.

How much are cab rides one way to town from Banana Beach?

We're trying to decide between taxis and renting a golf cart. The golf carts are awfully expensive.

Usually about $5 us to almost anywhere...... Carlos is our favorite cab driver....He's the black cab with the whistle& siren..... wink laugh

Thanks to you ALL for the imput! RobertE..sounds like you are a "regular" on the Island (how often do you visit?) One more question: How concerned should we be or not be about eating local fruits & veggies?

My rule is not to eat the 'skin' of any raw fruit unless you know it is washed--Like apples. Otherwise nay thing cooked is fine.

Eat anything that you want. The water is safe to drink but tastes heavily of chlorine. Bottled water is inexpensive and made locally. Use the tap water for rinsing out white shirts.
