I heard that the beach where we are staying (at the Aqua Marina) was not that great. I was told that the beach at Ramon's is much nicer. I have a non-diver friend that will be putting in more beach time than me while I dive.
Is the beach at Ramon's open to the public and is it within walking distance to the Aqua Marina?
Any other suggestions as the best place to swim, snorkel or just hang out for the day?
Thanks! Four days and counting!! laugh
Jennifer

Ramon's is maybe a 5 minute walk south of where you are staying. I think the beach is open to everyone. You can also snorkel off the pier there. They have made an artifical reef under the pier...it's fun and relaxing. Check out our website for pictures of Ramons' beach and pier. Have a get trip!! mobunny

North of AquaMarina by The Blue Tang or Tides Beach Resort are nice swimming beaches as well. All open to the public. Either direction is walking distance.

FACT

There are several very nice beaches-the most popular is Ramons(great for tanning and meeting people) and there is very little turtle grass and many people swim there(locals and tourists)
from Playador to Woody's nice beaches (swim off docks)
Banyan Bay to Grand Colony -good tanning beaches with plenty of places to swim.
Carribbbean Resort, and slightly to the north has a very nice beach-I have never swum there.
North of the cut Pescador,Capt. Morgans, Mata Chica and Portofino have lovely beaches.

No, the beaches are not long and wide like say Aruba or Anguilla but there are many nice beaches where you can swim from the shoreline. Pedro has listed several spots. (can't believe I am actually agreeing with Pedro! only kidding... wink )

Jennifer, we stayed at Ramon's and swam right off the beach and pier quite often during our week long stay. We and many others sun bathed and relaxed on the beach. The beach is not very wide, but it is kept very clean. There are palm trees, hammocks, cushioned chaise lounge chairs, and bar staff that will serve you even while you are in the water. It is not the kind of beach you'll see in St. Thomas or St. John however, there is alot to enjoy. Once again have a wonderful time!! mobunny laugh

Banyan Bay on down to Mata Rocks is a nice tanning/swimming beach, Ramon's is great in the heart of all the action, Mata Chica is probably my favorite beach on the inhabited parts of the island because it is a little wider, and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere with white sand, coco palms and truly beautiful water.

Lotusflame - Could it be that in the VERY short time you were on the island you didn't have a chance to see much?
That might explain why you didn't see the all the nice beaches that Ambergris has to offer.
