What are you looking for - as in what do you like?

They're both very good. Banyan Bay has bigger and in some ways more attractive units -- the two-bedroom units are 1000 sq. ft., with two baths with whirlpool in one, full kitchen, living area, balcony, really nicely decorated, ceilings in kitchen/living area are beautiful tropical hardwoods. Banyan Bay's pool is also bigger and the beach is far better. But The Palms is close to town, more convenient for walking to restaurants and such, and rates are generally a little lower at The Palms.

Thanks for the info. We wanted to be closer to San Pedro, since it sounds like the golf carts are not too relyable? In the Banyan Bay area it seems like there are restaurants and bars as well. However, the nightlife appears to be in San Pedro.

Any suggestions on golf cart rentals?

Also, any suggestions on private day charters?

We rented a gas powered golf cart from Moncho's in Aug. and it worked great. The electric ones are can die on you if you use them lot. I think the gas ones are pretty reliable provided you keep an eye on the gas tank.

We did a day charter with Capt. Bicho. He's a great guy and less expensive than others we checked out. His site http://fishingsanpedro.com/ Capt. Jeff uses him all the time, look for his posts. We used him for a Rocky Point beach BBQ/snorkeling day trip. It doesn't have to be fishing if that's not what you're interested in.

Even the electric carts are reliable. It's just that if you go way far north and aren't fully charged, you can run out of juice before you get back. But neither The Palms or Banyan Bay is north.

At The Palms you don't really have to have a golf cart, but at Banyan Bay it would be handy to have one.

As I say, both are excellent ... but money issues aside if I had to choose one or the other, it would be Banyan Bay.

O.K., so I'm muddying the choices a bit, but I'm curious about choosing The Palms over Belizean Reef Suites. My husband and I have stayed at The Palms twice in the last year and enjoyed it very much both times. We had dinner at Banyon Bay and loved Rico's, but we just want to be closer to town. We looked at the rooms at Belizean Reef suites on our last trip and thought they were nicer and brighter than The Palms. Anyone have any feedback on Belizean Reef over The Palms?

One difference is that Belizean Reef doesn't have a pool.

I have slept at both (in my younger and more wilder years)and the Palms wins hands down.
