My husband and I are planning a trip to AC this coming Feb. We have questions about the airports and the puddle jumper flights. We are flying from the Washington, D.C. area. Our thought was to fly to BZE, taxi over to Municipal, and catch the first available puddle jumper (Maya or Tropic). We heard it is cheaper to do it that way. How do we reserve a puddle jumper flight? or is it even necessary? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The economics only work if you have three or more travelers. You save about half on the airfare, but you must factor in the taxi ride. Maybe we're just stupid, but we've always (24+) just taken the easy way and flown from BZE to San Pedro.

I was thinking that less hassle is worth the extra cost but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. So I should fly to BZE and then catch the next puddle jumper plane to San Pedro? Reservations aren't necessary?

I agree with ChooChoo if number of travelers is only 2 (2?). With 2, you save about 40 bucks flying via municipal. What time does your flight from D.C. arrive? If before 3pm BZE time, if memory serves me correctly from my searches on this board, then you should have no problem catching the next available flight from BZE to AC. After 3pm, you run the risk of the last flights of the day being booked before darkness falls. I would recommend reserving your return flight from AC back to BZE. And make sure you give yourself enough time for one (at least)rum punch from Jet's.

We did the Washington (IAD) to BZE to San Pedro trip in August. We never even considered the hassle of a cab to Municipal just to save a few bucks, but there were only two of us.

We reserved Maya Island in advance and got a 10-percent discount, but both Maya Island and Tropic Air have hourly flights and it's not really necessary to reserve in advance, especially during the slower season.

Just noticed you are going in February, which is part of the busier season. You might want to reserve in advance just to be sure you're guaranteed a spot on your preferred departure.

Thanks for all the input and advice. We ended up booking a flight with American from DCA(Reagan National) to BZE. We will be getting to Belize fairly early in the day so we shouldn't have any problem catching a flight with Maya or Tropic. We will try to reserve a flight back to Belize so we don't risk missing our flight home.

would it be worth the hassle for six people??? How far is the taxi ride and any idea how much it would cost? Our flight does not arrive into the international airport until 3:30 PM would we be too late to take advantage of this anyway???
