Dalila Vanzie is representing Belize at the Miss World Pageant being held in Sanya, China. The pageant has already started and culminates on December 6th. Dalila is getting a lot of attention from the pundits and it is felt that for the first time, Belize can place in the top 20 or even the top 10. A strong placing by Belize gives us international recognition (esp. in the Europe/Asia region) and can only further bolster our tourism industry.

Please support our Miss Belize World, Dalila Vanzie, by voting for Belize at Miss World in China' at http://www.missworld.org/voting.asp ..

Votes for Dalila can make a difference. The country whose delegate has the greatest votes per capita (i.e. votes as a percentage of total population) will automatically make the Top 20.

You can read up more on Dalila at http://www.missworld.org/contestants.asp?item=162&page=1 and visit her web site at http://www.dalilavanzie.com .. Her web site is just about finished (2 more days) and currently shows a photo gallery from Richard Holder's web site.

Thanks for your support.

Team Leader, Dalila For Miss World

If I cast a vote and she wins will she rub suntan lotion on me and serve me cold Belikin on my next trip to AC. It's a small price to pay for gaining fame and would really promote tourism

She's smart too. A doctorate in Dentistry. I know who is doing my next root canal!

I would have expected more backlash from the exploitation of women demographic.

Belizean's (and most latin America/Caribbean countries) are really into the beauty contest thing. I've gotten over it. Some of my best memories are of watching beauty pagents while in Belize or other islands, which is something I never do at home. They really treat it as a national pride thing. I was in Aruba one year when Ms Aruba came in 2nd and Ms Venezuela won 1st place in the Miss Universe or something. It was WILD!

I agree with Barbara. Pageants are a big thing here, and they are a lot of fun to watch. The youngest beauty pageant I attended was earlier this year. 6 year olds competing for the title of Caye Caulker Miss Chiquitita. Practice was held for more than a month prior to the event. I think its a warm up to the Miss Lobsterfest Pageant, which is also a big deal here on Caye Caulker. The whole island piles into the basketball arena area next to the police station, where they have fenced it off with palm branches (no free peeking) and the police judiciously guarding the entrance. Admission is 5 bzd (but they serve free koolaid) and the proceeds usually go to the primary school. These local pageants are as glamourous as we can get, with celebrity judges brought all the way from Belize City, a DJ and sound system, and different categories like sportswear, talent and evening gown (including high heels). The Sportwear competition is performed with props like, a motorized sail board to scoot across the 20 foot stage. The talent competition might be a lip sync to a Britney Spears' song complete with blonde wig or a very silly punta and baton dance. And my question always is... where did all these tiny sequined gowns come from? I'll have to look thru my pictures and post some of them later.

I don't know any guy having problems with the Mr. Universe Contest. Even if most of us are maybe short of physical perfection, we know that even a Mr. Universe is not only a perfect physical specimen, but can also be very smart and even be Governator of California.
