Can anyone give me any information on the manatee watching trip?

We arrive Friday afternoon!

Can't wait!

We did it a few years ago. Basically, we sat in a boat, watched one surface for a breath of air (about 5 seconds), and then a few minutes later it happened again. After about 3 or 4 repetitions, it lost its entertainment value. Needless to say, it was not a wasted day, as the boat trip and an island picnic and a bit of snorkeling made it an enjoyable day. In my humple opinion, one of those things we were glad we did, but would probably not do again (too many other things to experience).

Thanks, Bobber, for the info! We may take a pass on the manatees this time, unless someone else can convince me that I need to do this!

I've done the trip twice, once this past summer and once the summer before. I did it the second time not for the manatees but for the other stuff. In fact, on the last trip we didn't even see any, and we made a second stop on the way back. I did enjoy the boat ride through many of the little cayes (almost 100 miles total), the snorkeling and picnic at Goff's Caye, the snorkeling on the reef near Caye Caulker and the stop at Caye Caulker.

Went with Seaduced twice and had a great time. How well you see the manatees depends a lot on your height above the water and your angle to the surface. You need to stand up and get out on the bow of the boat to see well. If you sit on the boat's benches, you'll be at too shallow of an angle to really see into the water and all you'll see is glare and reflections.

However, in my opinion, the manatee watching is not the best part of the trip. Most operators got to Goff's Caye for lunch - good food, beautiful little island and great snorkeling.

On the way back, most stop at near Caye Caulker for a snorkel stop with sting rays and nurse sharks. The first time we went, a huge spotted eagle ray cruised through the area - seeing him was worth the entire tripl.

I'd recommend the trip.
