does anyone have any suggestions on rooms at the victoria house. we are looking to go there for our honeymoon but don't want to spend top dollar for the big suites....i've read a few posts that claim the casitas have had trouble with staying cool with the A/C and just wondering if there have been any changes with that. do the casitas have a verandah as well?

The A/C in the casitas works well, but you have to close the wood louvers over the screened windows as there is no glass in the windows. The casitas are charming with a vaulted thatched roof with a ceiling fan and a large bed with mosquito netting. They have a porch on the front with 2 chairs. The beach, restaurant, pool and bar are only steps away from the casitas. I think you will enjoy staying in a casita.

P.S. There are interior and exterior photos of the casitas and the other room & suites on the "accomodations" page of the Victoria House website (www.victoria-house.com).

The cabanas at Ramon's would be pretty much the same story as VH. Harder to keep cool. Perhaps you would like a regular room at either if frosty cold A/C is a priority. The seaside or beachfront rooms at Ramon's are not individual cabanas so would stay cooler, especially on the lower floor. The Plantation rooms or suites, state rooms or villas at VH are all in buildings that would also stay cooler. What time of the year are you going? It may not matter as much as you think.

we are going june 22-29. the A/C isn't as big of an issue to us as the overall atmosphere of each resort...both look beautiful although we can't decide between the manicured and tranquil look of VH versus the more rustic lively theme to ramons...any opinions?

I agree with Diane. VH appeals more to women than Ramon's from what I'm told...especially for your honeymoon.

I agree with Diane -- for a honeymoon Victoria House is a step up from Ramon's. I personally like the regular rooms at VH better than the casitas, but perhaps for a honeymoon the casitas would be better.

smile Actually the individual casitas at Ramons get very cool due to the fact that they are sealed with glass windows. I also find Ramons to be a very romantic and exotic feeling place. cool
