I sure hope he rented a 4x4 and not a car. The Mountain Pine road is rough and they will definitely feel every bump but once they get there, it will all be worth it.

The new FFC hotel in the area is La Lancha Village at the Lake Peten Itza. I haven't been there yet but am sure it will be top notch like the rest of the FFC properties. It is already renovated to FFC standards and open for business. Can get more info from the folks at Blancaneaux.
