Crown? Belize? That just doesn't sound right.

Bring some sand too,hehehe...
Belize has all the brands mentioned so far. there's not a broad selection of Tequilas. but we still seem to get what most folks want (at last inventory CP has 17 different vodkas)

When heading for the Caribbean, I start thinking "rum". Since I haven't seen any mention of it, I'm wondering if rum is as big in Belize as it is throughout the Caribbean.

I love those pretty pink drinks. The ones you don't even know you're drinking alcohol until you go to stand up. eek

Is there any rum made locally in Belize?

Yes - plenty of rum is made in Belize.
"One Barrel", "Caribbean" and others.

Oh, thank you Diane. I'm looking forward to my annual rum fix. If I'm planning to take home some of the local stuff, is it best to buy at the airport on the way out?

My friends always look forward to their rum souveniers from my trips to the Caribbean. Which brand is best and how much can I take into the US? Is the local rum expensive?

Thanks again. Cheers!!

The rum is not expensive. If I remember right you can get the liters for about 10, and 18 for the large bottle. There is a less expensive brand and a more expensive brand, I couldnt tell ya the difference. Its all good. As for bringing the stuff home, there is a limit. I know I brought 2 big bottles of rum home with me last trip. Can bring more than that possibly.

Alcohol is not really any more expensive in Belize than it is anywhere else. As in crown royal. Maybe a couple more dollars. I would think the bigger markets would have the beter price.

the amount you bring back to the US, duty free, is not dependent upon where you bring it from. Uncle Sam doesnt care if its Belize or Timbuktu - 2 liters per individual is the duty free limit ( might be slightly off on the size - ltrs, qts, 5ths, who cares, 2 big bottles :-), but you get the idea). Of course, for a small fee, you can bring back however much you like!

That said, I've NEVER had my bags checked - worse thing that can happen is they make you pay the duty - no wait - thats the 2nd worst - #1 would be confiscation, highly unlikely though.

Take some cream, and put some rum in it.
