Well, there has been many post from people planning to go to Portofino. I am looking to see if anyone has stayed recently?
How is the swimming? I am good with almost anything but Francine is another story!!
I don't think we should eat every meal there any very good choices with in walking distance.
Thanks, Frozen in NJ

Hi JohnB,
I'm also planning on staying at Portofino for my first trip to AC in April. I've received a lot of good information on this board, and am trying to piece it all together.
I learned that Portofino does not have a pool. Sounds like they have an OK beach, but might be some seagrass which would prevent swimming immediately off shore (I'm afraid of stepping on stingrays!!) I believe they have kayaks that one could use to paddle out further for a swim???
As for restaurants, I'm hoping that there are some dining options within walking distance. Although Portofino's restaurant sounds really nice, I'm sure I'll want a change of scenery some evenings. I understand that the water taxi is the best way to get around, especially in the evenings, as the roads are unlit and golf cart travel could be dicey.
Hope you enjoy AC....sounds like a wonderful place to be no matter where you stay!!

Portofino does not have a freshwater pool but they do have a cleared area off their dock for swimming. They call it their "ocean pool."

Hello
We will be first timers in ac. Booked at Portofino in April, have concerns about the beach there after reading the board. There are so many hotel choices-very confusing for a first timer. Please share any thoughts on this property. Beach, location, restaurants, thanks a million.
looking forward to ac, coconuts

Coconuts, Portofino is a very nice place. You will not be disappointed (unless the pool is an issue for you ). The property is beautiful, the people are great, and the food is outstanding. You made a good choice. I know it's confusing for a first-timer, but just think, soon you will be a veteran too! Don't forget to share your experiences when you return. It really does help others make their decisions. Enjoy Paradise! Cheerz, Vicki

Thanks for your response it makes me feel better. No the pool is not an issue we are total beach people. Great beach, great food, great people is what we need. It sounds like there are alot of good restaurants, wondering if we should pass on the meal plan at Portofino??? All insight welcome. thanx, nancy
