Would you say San Pedro/Ambergris Caye is known for being a drinking town? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a drink occationally, but I'm not looking for a party town. My hubby and I want a quiet place to enjoy. We would like to stay North because of that but also come in Town to the restaurants - is it a big party atmosphere in town and on the beach? I don't mind a bit friendly, but lots of people being drunk is not my thing.

If you are thinking about a Cancun type of place, not here for sure. There are a lot of places to go if you wish, but they are pretty spread out. Also, nothing really huge, so not really a lot of crowds of any substance. We strolled through town on a Saturday night last month and there were a few people out and about, most of them locals, and it was really quiet. People do party, but it would not be real evident unless you are right in there with them.

It's not one big raging party town, if that is what you mean. There will be bands at some establishments and the music does tend to be loud enough to be heard outside.
If you are staying out of the town, you won't hear it anyway.

Music is part of life in any resort village.
Alcohol is as well.

You'll be just fine. Just remember it gets dark early all year long in Belize.

Go and enjoy every minute, I do and I don't drink smile

That six o'clock thing is incorrect. It's only illegal to drink after six when lobsters are out of season--which begins exactly one day before I arrive each year. That's how they set the season.

During lobster season, it's illegal to drink after 4:18 p.m., SPST--except east of the cut and at that little house right down by the lagoon...while standing on one foot and facing into the wind.

It is NEVER legal to enjoy a drink with one of those little umbrellas in it in public.
