Keith...WOW laugh That's a wonderful report and was very much worth the delay!!!

One question...are there lounges available at the cut on Caye Caulker? Also...my husband is thinking about packing up an umbrella for me to have on our 13 day trip? Is there plenty of shade....we will be staying at Banana Beach as well and appreciate all the info you have to share wink

Also...will there be a problem if we were to spend the day at Ramon's...their beach looks fabulous and would they frown upon non-guests usng it & a few of their lounges? It seems to me that all are welcome anywhere...especially since you were snapping pics all over the place smile

this is what makes message boards so valuable...all the people who take time after their trips to share their experiences and pictures. keith...you've given everyone a really great look at what they can expect. i know i really loved looking at pictures before we went for our first time. and i loved looking back at your photos and remembering all those places we saw too! thanks for the work you did to organize it all so well!

goody...

it's funny because i thought about how nice it would be to have an umbrella a couple of times while we were there too! a small collapsible one would have come in handy...especially the one day when it was so hot with no wind and times we couldn't find shade (like sitting on the ferry to caye caulker waiting for the boat to leave the dock!) i even saw a few local women walking around with umbrellas.

at the split on caye caulker, there is very little shade and not a lot of places where you can sit comfortably on the beach...very little beach actually...don't expect any chairs/loungers! the water is very inviting tho.

i'm not sure how ramon's would feel about non-guests using the lounge chairs on their beach...but i'm sure you can sit under a tree there...and definitely hang out on their pier and do some snorkeling (a nice little palapa at the end to sit in and leave your towels and such) and check out their restaurant/bar.

when we were there, most properties seemed half empty...as keith noted. lots of beachfront places to stop and rest...one of the most uncrowded places i've ever seen.

Mikell...once again you come through for me...this board is absolutely fantastic...so I guess the umbrella would be handy...I'm watching my hubby pack a ton of fishing equipment...i guess i can't feel guilty lugging around something that will make life a little more comfortable if the need should arise laugh Just trying our best to not overpack...which often we do smile

What a great report on your trip! Very comprehensive for new comers like us. We are staying at the Coral Bay Villas May 3-8. I t was nice to get an ojective viewpoint (albeit, not too "in-depth" for CBV). After that it's off to the wild blue yonders to Costa Maya Reosrt. We did it and will report back about our stay. We are then thinking of a short stay at Caye Caulker. Any suggestions on places there?

I want to Thank everyone for all of the great comments regarding the trip Report. It was fun doing and we are very much looking forward to getting back to San Pedro soon.

Answering some of the questions

1. Danny - Wish we were still there with you. It was great meeting you and your wife and thanks for the Belikan's!.

2. Goody2shuz - Regarding Caye Caulker - No I would not say there were any lounges. Most people just laid down a towel. Regarding shade - If you are staying at Banana Beach you will not need a shade. There are short palm trees that shade very well and also around the pool there are great spots. Regarding, Ramon's it is a pretty beach but I am not sure I thought it was that much nicer than Banana Beach. Banana's is small but there is a really pretty one (almost as nice) right beside Banana's. I never felt the need to go down there. I do believe you could get away with it with a couple drinks purchased at their bar smile

3. KathyA - Cathy, Us Georgians have to stick to gether!! smile I met a Belizean who said she had traveled to meet her Friend in Macon. Would that be you?

4. Mikell - I just wanted you to know that your awesome day trip reports was what inspired us to take all the time to do this. Thank you so much for all of your hard work.

5. Taters and Dab - I meant to look around while I was there for a room but ran out of time. I definately would suggest it. Would love to see what you came up with and get your opinions. I love that little island.

6. Larsteph - Yep, lots of places to eat. You did notice that I took pictures of most of the menus wink Should help you with prices

One last thing. If you would like to see some of our other trip reports you can check out www.keithlanders.com Their are two or three on there you may be interested in
1. Roatan Honduras
2. Aruba

Thanks Again,
Keith

That's interesting, Keith. Do you remember her name? I do know of one girl from Belize that met a friend of mine on a plane. This young lady was coming to GA to go to school at GA College. I do know that she and Pat met up to go shopping and out to eat.

You are the second or third person who made the comment about the shark holdings.

This is a pretty common thing they do down in Ambergris.

The animals have been trained by the dive masters I believe.

The reason it should not be done is due to Humans passing infections? Is that the thought?

Really enjoyed all of your commentary & pictures! Question: I'm contemplating a trip to Ambergris Caye by myself to celebrate my birthday in solitude (long story) in the next couple of weeks. I've been to Belize/Ambergris Caye once about a year & a half ago via cruise ship port of call.....loved it! Could you recommend a place to stay on Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker that would be safe, yet fun for a married female-not-interested-in-hanky-panky traveling alone? Am considering Journey's End. Do not want to get tangled up in Spring Break or heavy-duty party crowds (I'm over 40). Really just want some place to rest & get life back in perspective. Love to snorkle, fish, & would like to learn how to scuba dive. Any advice would be welcome.

If you can do without a pool, I recommend the Mayan Princess. Get a room on the second or third floor. They have good security and it is very near most places that you would like to hang out in the evening (Fidos) and a good selection of restaurants. Amigos del Mar dive op, is practically in front of the hotel. They'll teach you how to dive or just take you out for snorkel trips.

You won't regret it for a second.

Hi Klanders,

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to put together so much information. We are planning a trip next year and everyone who shares their experiences is helping us to plan. So, thanks. The other reason I am replying is because you are from Georgia. I grew up there and my family still live there. I visit every year. I live in London England but always keep a supply of grits in my cupboard. So, just wanted to say hello (or hey y'all).

ParrotTech, another place that you might really enjoy is the Blue Tang. If you got a room on the second or third floor, front. Good location, not that far from the places you'd be comfortable hanging out. It has a little pool and a nice deck area.

Keith, Great report. I just got a chance to read it. We got back late Sunday night the 28th. We had a great time and was nice to walk in some of your paths. Our last night we stayed in room b327, the best room at banana beach, I beleive. Jean and I enjoyed your company and our time around the pool. Your photos are great. What fun to see where we have just been. De javu all over again. We had a good time with Obie and Becky hanging out. Met Dave (hotsauze) nice young man. Later Danny
