We will be in AC in July and can't decide between Mata Rocks or Banana Beach. What are the pros and cons on each hotel?

stayed at banana beach and thought it was a really nice hotel. the oceanfront suites are excellent...very spacious and bright...nice private balconies with a wonderful view...especially on the third floor. the pool area is great..but not on the beach...everyone at the hotel was terrific...the restaurant is one of the best.

mata rocks is right next door...so location on AC is the same. it's much smaller...i didn't see their rooms so can't compare...but they are set back a bit from the water...none would have the same great balcony and view. they have a nice small beachfront with a great little bar and lounging area....it always seemed less crowded than the BB and i liked the area there a lot...

we also thought about staying at mata rocks...but i would choose BB again between these two. can't really go wrong with either place tho.

Just so you have the "other side" of the story - we stayed at Mata Rocks in 2002. Since then, they have added a few new rooms and a pool. Granted, the view from downstairs was not that great, but the room (we had a Jr. Suite) was very large, with a kitchen (not that we used it, but having a fridge was great). Mata Rocks is a small place, with very personal service. The beach bar and the bartenders were a joy. We looked at BB, and it sure did look nice, but we'll stay at Mata Rocks again. In my mind, it's the difference between a "Mom & Pop" and a chain. Same basic amenities, but a different feel. You'll enjoy either one.

My mother and I stayed at Mata Rocks last month. We had a Jr. Suite right on the ocean. The view was gorgeous.

-Beautiful view
-15 to 20 minute walk to town
-Nice staff
-Bar on premises
-Yummy Chinese takeout across the street (Emerald 2)
-They pay for your taxi to and from the airport

-Tiny room
-Tiny pool
-The continental breakfast is mostly big, dry pastries.

Just returned from Banana Beach...loved it& it's right next door to Mata Rocks. Must say that Banana seems to have more to the place not having seen the inside of a room at Mata Rocks. And the breakfasts at Banana Beach were more than just pastries!!!
