Just an fyi...we arrived in Belize City on 4/03/04 via TACA AIR. Our arrival was met with enthusiasm by "porters" at airport eagerly wanting to help with luggage. We accepted help from a guy, he loaded up our luggage and put my husbands carry on (containing his brand new laptop) on top of all other luggage. He advised us to go thru an open area to get to the Tropic Air counter, while he had to go around to the outside because carts would not fit thru. Meantime...you guessed it...he must have handed off the laptop while he was "going around", because as soon as we got to our destination there was no computer. That was the only time the carry on luggage had been out of our sight. Heads up anyone traveling there!!!! mad We attempted to report it and the officials at airport were not interested!!! Not a good experience as you can imagine.

Now that's a first!

'course since mu 1st trip down yrs ago, I never have the need to use one of the porters. I'd be inclined to think it was an isolated incident.

We typically trust no one with carry ons either...but we had four teens with us, dive/snorkel gear, etc. As we reviewed the situation we feel we probably looked like we needed assistance and we were swarmed with "helpful" porters. Will be checking out homewowners policy. Thanks.

Unfortunately we did not get his name. When we left on 4/10 we looked for a familiar face but did not see the guy. The airport just said they couldn't help us because we couldn't i.d. anyone. frown

Prior to 9/11 we had our bags searched and didn't know it. All of the pockets on the outside were opened and we were, thankfully, not carrying anything in them.

I recognized our luggage on the carts with zippers closed. When we picked them up they were open. From tarmac to conveyor belt. All it had to do was go around a corner.
I believe this does happen.
Not all people that go to Belize read or write on this message board. Thank you for the headsup on this happening.

i am really sorry for your loss.. i have travelled extensively in europe and central america and australia and have a simple rule..my medications, computer, camera, and items that are life important/expensive/irreplaceable NEVER leave my hand or my sight until i can secure them in my hotel and am sure my hotel room is secure. that is my golden rule and it has proven itself worthy for 30 plus years john in denver
