Hello Boarders! Larry T. here from Savannah, GA. I've been lurking around for a couple of months and have been enjoying your good advice and your good humor. My wife and I will be making our first trip to AC the last week of June to celebrate our 30th anniversary. After much web browsing we settled on the Xanadu, but I seldom see it mentioned here. Did I make a mistake? Should I change to another while there is still time? Has anyone had any recent experience they can share? Is this a quality resort? Can we do better?
Also, the CDC website recommends malaria pills. Is this realy necessary for 7 days on AC, with maybe one day trip inland?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Xanadu is a very nice place. Well run, spacious units, good location, nice pool and recently expanded beach area & kayak "marina."

No malaria pills necessary!

I agree with Barbara -- Xanadu is a nice place, and there's no need for chloroquine on Ambergris Caye.

Larry,
What dates will you be at the Xanadu?
We are getting married there the 14th of June and will be there until the 25th. Maybe we'll see you there!
Laurie

-FYI- Susan at the Xanadu has been GREAT with answering all of my questions and helping with arrangements.

Helo Laurie,
We will be arriving on the 21st and staying until the 29th, so yes, we will overlap. Congrats on the wedding! What day will that be?
Susan has been great with all our questions, also. Very responsive and a pleasure to deal with.

Hi all!

Hey just wanted to mention that Belize is considered "Malarial" by the Red Cross. So if you visit, you will need to wait 12 months from your departure date before you can donate blood again.

No big deal really, just adding in what I found out last week. So check it out if you are a giver.

BTW:
For instance, if you visit Cancun proper, only, you are fine. If however you visit a ruin, Tulum, Chitzen Itza, etc., you may not give for 12 months. I would think this should include the ruin in Cancun itself "Del Ray". It's a tiny ruin south of town, but loaded with critters at it's North end.

I know I've diverged, but they don't call me "Master of all things arcane" for nothing.

LOL

Thanks KCJD, good and interesting informatiom. I am a giver and never thought of that. Sure won't keep me from going though. I guess the needy will have to do without next year :-)

Larry,
The wedding will be 6/14. All the family is in town from 6/11 to about 6/18 or so - the rest of the time is for me and the soon-to-be hubby to relax. smile
