No we didn't have it in our mouthes or on our lips. Mostly belly, armpits, and bikini line where they got caught as the water slipped off of us exiting the water.

But just to make life interesting, one member of our group has become the "host" for a botfly larva. It is in her ear lobe and growing. It pokes it head out for air once every couple hours. Her ear lobe is three time the size it should be and red. Lymph node on her neck is huge.

We tried some of the recommended home remedies like smoke in a coke bottle held up against the site, camphor in a cotton ball, and vasoline to force it to come out for air. Didn't work, so she went in to the Doctor to get it cut out yesterday. Haven't heard from her yet.

For those looking for Sea Safe on A/C. I did notice some bottles for sale at the Blue Hole Dive shop. I already had my bottle that I brought with me bought at a Florida dive shop. I didn't know to keep applying it after leaving Belize to deal with the itchy rash.

Is that right, Sundinrocks?

From what I understand, Botfly eggs are carried on mosquitos and once contact is made with the host, the eggs hatch and the larva lives under your skin living off the host. here is a link we found useful in IDing what this thing was:

My friend isn't sure where she picked up the mosquito bite that deposited the botfly eggs. Based on the time it took to develop, she probably got it while we were at Caves Branch for a few days prior to going to A/C. Not sure really? Where ever there are mosquitos, there is probably a possibility.

Ian Anderson at Caves Branch told us to be sure to use DEET and scrub down good in the showers after our daily jungle adventures to avoid this kind of problem.

They had a little black dog that they recently found running free around Caves Branch. It had about 80 or 90 of these things they removed from it. It looked pretty malnourished. But they were caring for it and it hung around the lodge at Caves Branch along with all of the other family pets.

Hey...Mama always told us to wash good behind our ears. THIS IS ANOTHER REASON WHY THAT IS GOOD ADVICE.

Does anyone have an update on the "sea lice" around Ambergris Caye. We are going to be there June 17-24 and plan on doing some snorkeling and diving. Thanks!

The Pica Pica is ALMOST gone. They call me the Pica Pica magnet "If you want to know if there are any Pica Pica around, throw Harriette in, they will always find her." I actually dove last week and only got 4 "bites" and they did not swell up like my past episodes.
The season lasted a month longer than usual this year. It shoud be safe to go back in the water - LOL!
